Hi everyone. New to the forum. Been a pipe smoker/cigar smoker off and on for about 16 years. Mostly off, so I consider myself a beginner. Just wanted to introduce myself. I haven't had a cigar since college (2005) but pipes are a different story. Still learning and trying to develop my pallet. See yall on the forums.
@Hordecurious Welcome to the group. Love the name. First thing that came to my mind was a condition someone might have with an unhealthy interest in horticulture.
Believe it or not I have some seedlings in my window sill that should be ready to plant in about 6 weeks. That would make me a hordecurious horticulturist. It may be Greek to some, but I used to be big into World of Warcraft. I started playing alliance side but then was curious about the other side. Made a horde character and fell in love with it. Rarely play alliance side when I play, which is rarely.
@Hordecurious -- I join @ghostsofpompeii in welcoming you to TPL. Have a question? Ask anyone; we're a friendly bunch. Also, avail yourself of the FREE PIPE SMOKING LIBRARY folder. In any event, we look forward to your participation and contributions to our discussions.
Welcome to all newbies......very happy to have all of you aboard. Lots and lots of experience here, so any questions just ask away and you will be surprised at the great answers that you will get. And, conversely you are open to please pass your knowledge and wisdom on to us "older" dudes. So just get involved here.
I was a newbie in the Autumn of 2016 when I took up the pipe for a second go 'round. I had previously smoked a pipe from 1964 until the mid 1980's. Does that count?
I am a true newbie, I started smoking a pipe in November of 2012. I did not smoke at all before that, except and occasional cigar with friends...like maybe twenty total cigars in my life before 2012. Unless you include the second hand smoke from my dad's cigarettes for the first 25 years of my life?
And there it is: the reason I don't really like tobacco, even though I enjoy smoking a pipe...... two parents who smoked like chimneys (mother: unfiltered Chesterfields / father: unfiltered Camels), especially in the car, in the winter. Thanks for the memory, @RockyMountainBriar
I must have stank as a child.....
To this day, I hate cigarette smoke. As a side note, I think people should be allowed to smoke cigarettes everywhere, while I should be allowed to carry a squirt gun loaded with cat pee, so the cigarette smokers can go home and burn their clothes like I'll have to..... (hyperbolic statement for emphasis....)
@motie2 Same thoughts here....hate cigarette smoke. I never could figure why cigarettes (were) ok in bars here, but not cigars or pipes. Now none are legal in public places.
@motie2@RockyMountainBriar I had similar opinions growing up. My dad was a heavy cigarette smoker, as were some of the parents of friends of mine. I remember coming home one day after spending the night at a friend's house, and I had to take a shower because I smelled of cigarette smoke. I absolutely hated cigarettes (still do), and thought all tobacco was evil. It wasn't until I spent some time around a pipe smoker that my opinions changed.
Thanks for the welcome. I’m 25 I’ve been pipe smoking for two years now. I live in Charleston sc. My grandfather introduced me to pipe smoking as a way to calm myself and to be able to sense what’s going on around me. I have had the luxury of exploring in pipes or tobacco yet. I’m using a dr.Grabow grad duke. And smoking captain black original.
@Rebelheathen -- That's a wonderful story about your grandfather. I was the child of elderly parents, so my only experience of grandparents was as a small child. I envy your experience.
Welcome to the site......in your quest to "explore pipes and tobacco" you have joined what I think is the most friendly group of people with the most knowledge of those subjects on the internet. Been smoking cigars and pipes for over 50 years now, and I still learn new things every day because of the wealth of knowledge on the internet, mostly on our site. I don't care what you need to know, one of the people here will step up with answer or a suggestion. Incredibly nice people. Of course, you can't just take, you need to share as well as you will bring new info to the table. I was on several sites as well before this one, and all you got were "snarky" answers and comments, and derogatory comments if you didn't smoke a $500 pipe and the most expensive tobacco available. Take advantage of the experience within.
Just for the record, I was homeported in Chasn at the old Navy Base back in the day. I think now it is an industrial park with maritime facilities.
New member here. Started smoking a pipe in 2005 or so, but have only smoked on and off over the years. Recently unpacked my box of pipes and some old tobacco, and started enjoying again. I've been diving into reacquainting myself with pipe smoking and learning about all the changes since I last enjoyed the hobby. Found that some of my favorite blends (Shortcut to Mushrooms by JFH and Dunhills EMP) are no longer available, so I'm venturing out into some of the more popular tins and bulk blends. I enjoy a lot of different styles, from English/Balkan blends to something as simple as Half & Half. I recently became intrigued by VA-Per blends, and hope to grab a few soon. Thanks to Scott from Aristocob and JD & Beau from The Country Squire Radio for all the opportunities to increase my knowledge base.

Feel free to ask any pipe smoking questions you have and someone in the forum will provide an answer or 10.
