@sailorman - Welcome to the forum. Sorry you had to suffer through the Air Force. Guess you didn't qualify for the Coast Guard. Are you still in the Houston area?
Forgive the off-topic post.... but the discussion summoned a fond memory....
My father, of blessed memory, served in the US Navy during WWII after "graduating" from the orphanage. Having served at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station in 1918, he would years later tell family and friends that he, "....fought in the Battle of the Great Lakes."
Master - most of them, but the ones that aren't are a problem. Been sailing for 50 years and so far I've never had to prevail on the USCG but is nice to know they are there if the need arises.
Howdy, New-ish to the forums but never got around to posting in here. Part of the reason for me posting now was the page and a half of Naval discussions and Airforce ribbing, so I felt like the timing was opportune.
So as the story goes I hit 30 about a year ago and decided to get into a hobby I always admired (never smoked anything in my life before 2018). Now I am 10+ Pipes in, and thanks to my status as a Sailor in the worlds greatest Navy I also get to grab tins of tobacco from foreign shores during my travels. I really enjoy reading up on the history of blends, brands, and tobacco types. My go to blend before its abrupt disappearance was Dunhill EMP, now I am still feeling around for something that fills that void. Until then Seattle Pipe Club's: Plum Pudding and Brigadier Black's: Sherman's March are great everyday smokes.
Hand Salute from an old Navy Man here. Glad to have you "aboard". I served 68-74 on the "Good Old Wooden Minesweepers". By todays standards sub standard duty, but I loved it. Small crew, not so "Navy" due to the assignments (only occasional inspections and such). We got to go places where the "fleet" couldn't due to size and of course assignments. We got to do some pretty neat stuff that still makes my hair stand on end sometimes. Being so small we had to be accompanied by a small Fleet Oiler or a small LCD with skid tanks on the well deck to refuel every second or third day. Any way, I look forward to your posts. And stay safe out there.....the one thing I learned was those oceans are HUGE, and aboard ship on those oceans there are many ways to get your butt in a sling.
Welcome aboard. I retired as a Senior Chief in the oldest continuous sea service. I've even known some Navy types that I liked. Most of my sea time was aboard an icebreaker home-ported in Seattle.
May I add my name to those welcoming you, and all our new members? We look forward to your participation and contributions. Need help? Have a question? Just ask. Thanks! I'm a western New Yorker. I have two favorite pipes. I can't pick just one. It would be like picking one child over another. One is a vintage GBD bent apple, the other is an old Amphora that is small enough to sneak a quick smoke in. Typically I smoke English blends.
@pwkarch *Sharply returns salute* Permission to come aboard! I have actually spent some time on a few MCMs and youll be happy to know they are still wood (For obvious reasons) and still provide new sailors with a roaring (vomiting) good time though I am sure the standards or at least the ships are likely much more modern. @PappyJoe Puddle Pirate huh? Good man Senior! I have served my time with some coasties out of Kuwait and now out of Hawaii. I am globally deployed so I have seen every coast and many foreign shores. @pwkarch@PappyJoe Thank you for your service gentlemen.
@Wrmills - Welcome to the forum. Now tell us where you live (city and state or country - no address). What do you like to smoke both tobacco and pipe wise.

I've known quite a few yachtsmen because of my time in the Coast Guard. Most of them were good people.
