.... and for TPL members to welcome them!

I notice that when some newcomers post in a folder we flood them with welcomes. Others not so much. If we have this folder for newcomers to announce themselves, we'll be able to greet everyone as they show up. 

Newcomers could also ask questions here about the (laughable?) workings  of the site.

Let's keep this discussion near the top.

Thanks @xDutchx -- I'll stop by daily, to keep it near the top of The Pipeline discussions. 

Hey, maybe one of the System Lords could ask the Techies to have the folder permanently set as the top discussion folder.

Perhaps Milady @NicoleSTGLaneLtd?   Could you ask about this? I think it would be a good thing for TPL -- a NEWCOMER folder at the top of the first Pipeline page, so we can say howdy. 

While I'm at it, lemme ask, how come in some folders the most recent posts are on the first page, while in some others, the most recent posts are on the highest numbered (i.e., last) page?

@motie2, that is most likely a simple error in code that needs to be fixed to match the format of the other folders.

Hello to the pack; I am a newcomer... Inspired my my late Great Grandfather Kent, I have taken to pipe smoking.  Still have his old pigskin tobacco pouch.

We're generally a amicable bunch, loosely divided into the usual English, VaPer, and Aromatic clans, with a lot of mingling when no one's looking.

 @ motie2 - Glad to be here, I lurked around for a few months and like the vibe of the forums.  A bit of background - I live in Atlanta and used to smoke cigars pre-marriage days (20 yrs ago) but had to give them up because of the hazmat routine the wife would require when I finished smoking one.  A year ago the stress of the job increased and I needed something to calm the mind when I got home.  So I pulled out a few of my wife's grandfather's old yello-bole pipes and picked up the habit.  Added advantage, the wife loved the smell of pipe tobacco and the memories it brought of the grandfather.  Since starting, the PAD and TAD have kicked in and a few briar, meerschaum, clay and cob pipes later and a growing cellar of tobacco, I've entered the "being selective" stage of future additions.  I enjoy mostly all tobacco types but strait Virginia, Va/Pers, and aromatics seem to be my go to right now.

@agjohanson Welcome to the group. A lot of us were inspired to smoke a pipe as a result of fond memories of a Grandfather, Father, or close family member who was near and dear to us. And drawing on those memories forms a strange kinship between you and your pipe as you feel like you're carrying on the legacy of the family pipe smoker. Can you remember what pipe tobacco your Great Grandfather smoked back then?

@loammi I too want to welcome you to the group. It's not a bad idea to first approach a new forum as a Lurker as it gives you some time to look the place over and see the type of people frequenting the place. And having you come out of the shadows reflects well on our active members who've tried making it a friendly place to share ideas and just generally chew the fat. 

I know several members switched from cigarettes to a pipe, but I wonder how many were cigar smokers who made the switch?
