@Charles I'm a big fan of Haunted Bookshop, as well as Old Joe Krantz. Can't smoke it in a pipe with a large bowl, though, or the nicotine will haunt me for the next hour or so.
Having a bowl of Rattray's Hal o' the Wynd in my Stanwell bulldog. Haven't seen this blend in stock for some time, so I'm starting to worry it might be discontinued, since it has red Virginia in it.
Starting my day with some MacBaren Mixture from a tin I set aside in 2007 in an old apple from Campbell's Smoke Shop in East Lansing. This was the first pipe I bought in a pipe shop, as opposed to a drug store. I seem to remember that it cost me $10.I believe that Savinelli was making pipes for Campbell's store line back then, but I am not sure.
Attended the New Orleans Pipe Club meeting last night. Smoked some Ole Shenandoah Appalachian Berry, Sherlock Holmes, Hyde Park and some Captain Earle's Mystic Blend that had a date stamp of 022515 on the tin. I don't know what Mystic Blend taste like when new, but if you can find a two year old tin, buy it.
Our meetings are held at Mayan Imports in Metairie (just outside of New Orleans). This location used to be a Tinderbox but before it closed in July 2015, Mayan bought everything in stock. The packaged up everything and moved basically across the street. After the building owner who told them smoking was allowed on premise decided to ban smoking, Mayan bought their own building and moved into it in December 2017. The tin I found must have gotten lost in the shuffle until they completed the second move this month.
Mystic Blend contains 9 different tobaccos including Red Virginia, Virginia, Orientals, Latakia and Perique. The perique just barely shows up from time to time but the Red Virginias and Latakia forms a nice base for the other tobaccos to build on. It's dark, rich and has almost a sweet aroma because of the extra aging.
@Londy3 What can I say I like the early morning bowl with my coffee that and since I am lucky enough to be able to smoke at work I have quite a few bowls a day. Time for some Gorgorath mature Virginia.
Just tried Captain Black Cherry in my Cassillero 125.,not sure I would purchase again but I at least tried it. I'm going to mix Captain Black Cherry and Captain Black Dark and see what happens.
