@Londy3 The fresh 1-Q did not impress, RLP-6, and your LL-7 are both better, but I’ll have to say, that 10+ year old 1-Q is good, close to CB Royal maybe?
Just polished off my first bowl of kajun kake and consequently my first VaPer. Nothing left but a pipe that needs a cleaner. Also did not smoke it in the house. I had a water and a land shark to accompany it.
@opipeman that really speaks to what I enjoy about it. Tons of flavors to explore and pipes as you say. I'd like to get a full 7 day rotation soon. Or at least enough pipes to cover the major blend categories. I only have 3 at present but all in good time.
@Whoispra; I've never tried to stick to a rotation, that would take too much thought or I'd have to keep some written record to keep it all straight. I just go with what looks good on any given day. I guess I'm just a simple man.
@opipeman I don't know that it's necessary and certainly people fall into different camps. I think i'm more interested in just avoiding confounding flavors by smoking varying blends in the same pipe. Now I know ghosting varies widely depending on the blend but for me I think that having a pipe for pure virginias or aromatics or english/balkans or perique blends makes sense. and there are those that get even more granular than that but i don't see that as necessary for certain.
@PappyJoe well i haven't been at it as long as you no doubt but I figured if I had a pipe for every day of the week that would cover me for a bit. Keep me from wearing any pipe out to quickly or abusing any particular one. I'm sure if I make it years down the road i'll have many more than 7 in my collection.
@Whoispra As you already know, cobs are also a great alternative when trying to increase/enhance the pipe smoker's population, without breaking the bank...🙂
Yard work ALL day! Now a well deserved break with some C&D Autumn Evening in a $2.50 mystery-named stummel that I restemmed. This pipe is a comfortable smoker. I guess I lucked out...
@Whoispra I was going to suggest some MM cobs as @KA9FFJ has. You can’t really beat a good cob for smoking. Some of the new ones with the acrylic stems are even better, although more expensive. I would buy a “fancy” cob over a crappy off-center drilled, mega-fills basket briar. Even if you get the kind with the original soft plastic stems, you can buy a bagful of spare stems that are pretty much universal for their few sizes/types. Almost a one-stem-fits-all. I love all of my cobs, of which I have several, I can’t say that about some of my crappy briars.
@Whoispra, @RockyMountainBriar I think the cobs are the way to go, replacement stems are up to $2, glad I stocked up when they were $0.79! I only bought straight amber Danish and slim. I clean them up with a Dremel tool and bend them to my liking. I still can't get rid of the plastic taste from the acrylic stems but I got a vulcanite push mount stem years ago and drilled my Honey Pot and Charles Towne to accommodate it. I'm considering ordering some vulcanite stem blanks to fiddle with.
Yeah I have two MM cobs. I’d like to get several others. I have my eye on a dwarf cobbit a dagner poker a Carolina gent and maybe an emerald. Love my country gentleman.
@RockyMountainBriar@Whoispra I have a ton of briars, but over the past year or so, I I have been loving my cobs. For quality of the smoke, for price point and for style, god damn if MM isn't the top of my list. They smoke cool, clean and consistent. The only other pipe I have that I love to smoke as much as my cobs is an old pre republic Peterson shamrock that never disappoints.
Well when I get the funds to buy several i'm going to pull the trigger on a poker and gent and maybe of few others. I do want to buy a quality briar at some point. My basket briar works great for what it is but i feel like i'm missing out on the quality briar experience.
@Whoispra I like all my MMs, but I think my favorite is my Charlestowne. I've noticed @Londy3 has one too and we both seem to be getting some good mileage out of them...
@KA9FFJ yeah i'm confident most of the MM cobs are solid. I do like the way the Charlestowne looks and my only complaint about my MM Cobs are the plastic stems and the way the shank joins the bowl. The bowl/shank interaction doesn't really make any difference in performance and i almost always have some dottle anyway. The higher end MM Cobs have way nicer stems.
A Happy Friday. Absolutely spectacular day. out here enjoying the weather with the beast. Having some Peter stokkeby luxury English in my Friday sabinelli. Have a great weekend everybody
No pictures tonight. Just a lovely evening and a bowl of redburn in the country gentleman. This may be my favorite blend out of them all so far. I don’t know if it’s the burley or dark fired but tasty stuff
I cracked open a tin of Pelican i bought in 2018. This is the Arango Cigar "version" that some say is not as good as the Butera version however both versions were made produced by J.F. Germain & Son. They taste about the same to me.

That's the beauty of pipe smoking. There are so many choices of Tobaccos and pipes to try it is an adventure as much as a hobby.

7 day?
I have a 9 week rotation if I decided to smoke every pipe I own on a regular basis. And if I only smoked one bowl a day.

I'm enjoying some GLP Westminster in an MM Boone, I hated the green stem, now it's amber!
I love my MM’s…Dagner Poker, Carolina Gent, Little Devil Acorn, and Southport Ferryman….among others🙂

I'm not waiting around 10 years for a tobacco to finally become good. I'm out
... With a little bulliet bourbon rye
Good blend in a great pipe...
