I never let my allergies stop me from smoking, come to think of it I smoked my way through covid a couple of years ago, had to draw lightly and take extra lasix for a while.
After leftover duck chili, I'm sitting back with an MM Boone filled with GLP Westminster. After my coffee is gone it's time for wine!
@KA9FFJ, @PappyJoe, @Balisong; Maybe it's my imagination, but I don't seem to get colds or have sinus trouble as long as I smoke a couple of bowls a day. As for Covid, I'm the only one in my family that didn't get it and I'm the only pipe smoker as well. Seems like early in the China Virus, I heard that smokers were less likely to get it. I never heard any more about it, but it makes me wonder.
Yesterday I had my second bowl of GLP Géométrie in a bent billard by R.D. Powell. After two bowls, I've learned that you have to be careful packing the tobacco. It is easy to pack this blend too tightly which makes it hard to light and keep lit. Since it comes in a tight block I have found a reason to use the antique plug cutter I bought at a junk shop several years ago. I cut a thin slice off the side of the plug and then rubbed it out to go in the bowl. The first bowl I had was in a clay pipe and it was hard to keep lit and the draw felt tighter than it should.
The second bowl, in a briar, also would not stay lit so I dumped it so I could run a pipe cleaner through the pipe and make sure the airway wasn't clogged. I left the pipe cleaner in when I reloaded the bowl and that made all the difference. I relit the tobacco and the draw was easy and the flavors came forward and made an enjoyable smoke.
Side Note: I will neither confirm nor deny the charge that I corrupted one of my 18-year old grandsons by handing him a Missouri Meerschaum loaded with Exotic Orange (from before they changed the name) and a glass of Sacrificio Anejo Mezcal.
I'm just finishing some GLP Abingdon in an MM Apple Diplomat, I'll finish my coffee with GH Broken Scotch Cake in a Pride while mucking the former turkey stall, they're enjoying outdoor life!
@PappyJoe Thanks for the heads up on géométrie, my tin should arrive today! Better your grandson learn the pleasures of life from you than the street! My family introduced me to alcohol and nicotine much earlier than 18. As a matter of fact my high school headmaster took a few of us out to dinner and bought some wine for the table and allowed us to partake and smoke as long as our parents would allow it.
My order arrived and I immediately opened GLP géométrie! I loaded the small pieces into a fairly new MM Washington Rob Roy for a first taste. It started out sweet with a bouquet of flavors and is now becoming mildly sweet and floral. Thanks to @PappyJoe I made sure I didn't pack it too tight. Tastes like a keeper!
I just looked at the package tracking….it’s in Jacksonville Florida? No wonder! The frick’in stage took a wrong turn at the pass and went south instead of north?
@RockyMountainBriar Funny you should mention that detour. My daughter ordered something and it was shipped from Franklin, Illinois. It was supposed to be here yesterday. Tracking shows that it went from Franklin, to Chicago, to New Orleans, back to Chicago, to Memphis, to Fayetteville, Arkansas, back to New Orleans and then back to Fayetteville.
@PappyJoe I wonder if they have foreign speaking/reading…or not, workers that just take a guess where packages are posted? Maybe some uncaring millennials that really just don’t give a crap where they go? Maybe boomers that have lost their give-a-shit because what the hell, why work and do a good job if you can get paid anyway……I’m almost to that point.
I have one of my Savinelli “Silver” pipes, a 904KS loaded with some LL Drew Estate “Grand Central” this evening. On opening the jar, I thought the blend smelled like maple syrup and pancakes. Reading the reviews, it’s probably coconut. I’m not getting any “fruit” that is mentioned in the reviews though.
I'm starting the day with GLP Westminster in an MM Apple Diplomat along with a cup of coffee. It's a nice sunny morning with a cold wind but the next two days will crest 80. Spring has sprung in New England!
Seems I'm the only one smoking! I finished a Pride filled with GH Broken Scotch Cake and I'm on to an MM Let Freedom Ring Rob Roy filled with GLP Kensington along with a fresh cup of coffee.
@Balisong I’m working (well, having lunch now) adding my (more than) fair share to medicare/medicaid/and various other government agencies that take my money and redistribute it to some slack-assed jerks that have not earned it, so no pipes for me until I get home.
@Balisong You may have taken that comment incorrectly, and anyone else for that matter. That was specifically NOT directed at retired persons that have been there and done that (notice I stated, slack-assed jerks that have NOT earned it). I have the utmost respect for people who have worked their life, paid their dues, and earned their retirement. I hope to make it myself someday. A special thanks to service members (all branches), law enforcement, firemen and all first responders that run towards danger rather than away from it.
I sliced a flake from a plug of GLP géométrie rubbed it out and let it dry for a bit before loading up an MM Washington 5th Ave. Since it's an Oriental I decided to pair it with oolong tea!

It is not my fault you’re a weak minded sheep.

Love that Golden Nugget.

Dulce de Leche in a reworked Paronelli...

Another one for my list...😏

The comment was directed to the retired members who can read your comment and think been there, done it and never regretted it.

@RockyMountainBriar
Thanks for the clarification!
That is one gnarly pipe.
After that last pic you posted, how long is my list now?😏
