Breaking in the MM C&D “Southport Ferryman” with some Mac Baren “St. Bruno’s Flake”. I “prepared” the cob by chamfering the stem and tapering the stem airway, then carving the edges off of the wood shank inside the bowl. I usually fill the edge voids in the bottom of the bowl with pipe mud, but I skipped that this time. I wanted to give it a smoke right away. I can fill it in later. This tobacco is reminiscent of Samuel Gawith’s “Grousemoor” with a slightly less floral note.
Son and his wife flew in for the week. Presently visiting her side of the family, so I'm enjoying some Taste of Spring in a CAO latticed meer while enjoying the breeze on the front porch...
In case your wondering about the above pic. I visited John Dengler tobacconist and pipe shop in Old St. Charles yesterday and, among other things, purchased some Pirate's Chest personal blend and I've set it out to allow it to dry a little...
In 2016 I bought some Lane Crown Acievement. Smoke one tin and jarred the other. Wasn’t that impressed and forgot about it. Just found the jar and had to pry the lid off the jar, it was sealed so tight. What a difference six years of aging has made. The Latakia and perique have mellowed and the orientals and Virginias are more pronounced. Better now than before. Smoking it in my 1926 Dunhill.
@KA9FFJ; I have the same situation here in central Iowa. I'm not as smart as you, I had a bowl. Getting ready to go to the Polk County Sheriff's Office to renew my and my brides concealed carry permits.
@opipeman I’m glad I don’t have to worry about CCW permit anymore, I love Montana! By the way, permit-less CCW has not turned us into the “Wild West”…..well, not anymore than it use to be.
Loading up a few bowls for the road as I'm headed out to Denver to see my son, leaving at 3am.
Won't be much of a travel log going and coming back as we're driving straight thru and to be honest we hit most of the interesting stuff last year, There really isn't much between Chicago and Denver traveling on I 80 anyway.
It's currently 94 with a heat index of 109. My yard work consists of sitting at my desk with a glass of ice tea. It may cool off enough to have a pipe by six pm.

When I first started looking at pipes, I was “eyeball’in” those db pipes with the brass ring rim inlays, never pulled the trigger though.

I paired it with a class of Corsair Dark Rye.

Iowa is a permit-less state as well. I get the permit in case I travel out of state in case that state honors the Iowa CCW.
Be careful, stay safe, enjoy the visit...
Nice Pete.
My kinda guy 👍
