The lamb came from a friend. I raise chicken, turkey, duck and rabbit for the table which accounts for 75% or more of our protein. In the summer I grow almost the same in vegetables, if I could get broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts to harvest it would be close to 100%. I also plant a patch of winter squash and sweet pumpkin for the fall and early winter.
Yet another sleep in morning! My wife made me a cup of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee while I loaded up a Diplomat with Kramer's Father Dempsey. This is hopefully one of the last single digit mornings.
@jfreedy I have seen a few of the Bones pipes that I have been itching my “payment” trigger finger over. The shape, size, blast and now patina on that one, at least the profile shown, is awesome. The stem looks good too. I wonder if they make that shape with a tapered stem?
" I have been itching my “payment” trigger finger " You need help young man, serious help! You should sign up for the next PA class in your area (Pipes Anonymous 🤣)
I LOVE the Bones pipes. I have several with my favorite being the "Fat Author" which has not been available here lately. Their pipes smoke as good if not better than most of my pipes, and the price point is great.
@RockyMountainBriar - I'm not sure if they make it in a tapered stem. With Bones you kinda get what you get. They're different every batch. I picked this particular pipe because it has a 9mm filter (rare for Bones). The button and end of the stem are a little thick for my liking. So I may try to rasp/sand it down some. I've never done tried this.
Any advice out there on thinning down an acrylic button/stem?
@jfreedy A very fine file. 1/2" wide file is what I use. Tape the stem right at the button to avoid a filing accident. File the button at about a 30° angle, then turn and cross file 30° the other way. This helps to avoid a lopsided button. If anything, file at a slight taper away from the stem. Not too much, just a little... Once satisfied, LIGHTLY sand with 800, 1000, 1200 and micro mesh the button as usual, again, leaving the original protective tape on the stem. After all that, you should be good to go... well, after you remove the tape...😏
@jfreedy I file the stem with a flat needle file with smooth outside edges (do it won’t cut the button lips off). Then I use sandpaper, usually 150, then 220, then 600. I need to find some 320-360-400, if they make it, to close the gap between 220 and 600. Since I’m smoking it, and my teeth are hell on stems, I will sometimes just polish that off with a rag and some NOVUS #2 Fine Scratch Remover followed with my paste of mineral oil/beeswax/carnauba wax polish. If I want to spiff it up more to sell it on EBay, depending on how many scratches are left, I’ll start with either the super coarse green compound or not so coarse red compound on the buffer, followed by white, then a nice polish of carnauba.
I'm finishing the last of my Kramer's Father Dempsey bulk in an MM Let Freedom Ring Rob Roy along with a Sweet Vermouth and Sparkling Water. Tonight I had fried smelters for dinner which brought back memories of my grandmother cooking them for dinner on Fridays during Lent.
@utilityworker101 Father Dempsey is a well balanced Latakia blend that's not overpowering on the Latakia and slightly sweet from the Virginias. The Orientals are in the background, I've smoked back to back bowls without tongue fatigue or any ashy taste at the bottom of the bowl. If I needed to smoke inexpensive tobacco this would be the only one I'd buy.
Edisto in a Lorenzetti. Supposed to be well into the 70's today; I would go fishing but supposed to be some gusts today which means I would spend most of the day trying to keep the boat in position, so I guess I'll get some landscaping done instead.
After a lunch enjoyable by all Great Apes, a banana, a couple of handfuls of pistachios, and a plum, I'm enjoying a uniquely Human pastime, smoking Dunhill Flake in a Rob Roy with a cup of coffee.

Reading “The Pipe Collector” while breaking in my new Bones bent Dublin with some Sail Green.
I'm just curious, but what percentage of your own food to you grow/raise/eat in a typical year? You seem to be fairly self-sufficient...
That's a beauty!!

How is the Father Dempsey? I just got a tin and haven’t opened it yet.
Thanks so much for your advice. You're giving me the confidence to actually try it.

Had to do it!
