Snows supposed to stop, the dog became a plow when he went out after dinner. I had Peterson Flake in a small Peterson Army style with acrylic stem before dinner. Now I'm relaxing with GH Balkan Mixture in a Rob Roy. Indy racing starts this weekend, I may pay for Peacock, but then I'll get sucked into F1 for the Grand Prix series. Thankfully I'm overstocked with tobacco!
Tonight I'm smoking an excellent aromatic blend from the Sutliff Private Stock Collection "Metropolitain. And smoking it in my Matches 860 Friday Savinelli, while watching the not-so-classic horror film "Frankenstein 1970". A good pipe makes a mediocre horror film even better..
I've got Peacock, for only 5.33 a month after tax it's a steal. The only problem is that most of the Indy races are on the main NBC network, so the race won't appear on Peacock for 24 hours after the race...but that's cool too, otherwise I would have to pay cable a but load of money to watch the races. Getting off cable and moving to a Firestick was the best thing I've done in a long time; it saves me roughly $1,100 a year (after tax money too).
@vtgrad2003 I had issues with Comcast a few years back, they have intro packages that last two years, your bill takes a big leap, you call and complain, they lower to almost the intro price, repeat every two years. We knocked it down to internet and streaming, same pricing policy. A lightning strike fried our electronics including cable modem, goodbye Comcast. Our internet is through T-Mobile, $50/month. We axed Sling at $30/month, added Paramount $6/month and Wondrium $10/month. We need Prime so the video is included, T-Mobile gave us Hulu basic and I got yearly deals on Discovery Plus and Curiosity. Right now we're still under the cost of most Internet only plans so $5/month for Peacock and $27/year for F1 won't break the bank and I'd rather watch races on demand especially Formula 1.
I forgot what topic I was in! This morning I'm having Pease Charring Cross in a Rob Roy along with Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee that I roasted yesterday. I hit the roast perfectly, depth of flavor with a hint of sweetness and no bitter aftertaste!
Decided to try my STL shoe box reworked Echt Bruyere with some Frankenblend.. I don't know whether to feel like Gandalf, or go lunting for some ancient pipe weed from the South Farthing...😏
@KA9FFJ. That’s awesome! An armchair pipe at its finest! The look is priceless too 😂.
I started out with the Ripe Honeydew in my Savinelli 673. Gotta admit, I can get into it. Onward to some Boswell Route 22 in my fluted Boswell. I’ll finish the night off with G.L.Pease Quiet nights in my Peterson 307.
Went digging in the back shelves and found another Sutliff Private Blend I had sitting back there begging to be smoked ... "Charlemagne". Don't think it's still available. This blend as well as the blend I smoked last night was gifted to me by one of the members. Also included were two additional Sutliff Private Blends I plan smoking in the next few days which I haven't seen offered anywhere else, So I'm assuming my generous friend had them for a considerable time aging in his cellar.
Getting reacquainted with cellared tobacco you may have completely forgotten about is like discovering a twenty dollar bill in an old paperback book you forgot you once used as a book marker. Which has triggered a memory.
Years ago I had a habit of putting money in the pages of books when I might find a few buck in my pants pocket. Then once we moved from our first little house to our current home (well it's not all that current ... we've been living in it for over forty years), I packed all my books and old magazines into a box, along with several others boxes of odds and ends and stacked them in the corner of the garage to unpack as needed. The box with the paperback books must have been at the bottom of the stack because I never got around to unpacking them. The neglected box must have been in corner of the garage collecting dust about ten years before curiosity got the better of me and I decided to see what was inside. And to my surprise was my old collection of books. After giving them a proper sniff test to separate the terminally musty smelling books from the rest I began separating those I wanted to keep from those I'd donate to Goodwill. All of a sudden a ten dollar bill fluttered out from the pages of one of the books. I began flipping through the pages and tucked neatly away between the pages I'd stumble upon a few additional dollars in several of the books. By the time I was done I accumulated somewhere in the vicinity of a two hundred bucks. Now if you know the history of my family there were times when that kind of cash would have really come in handy during the time I was laid off from my job - or on sick leave after by back surgery. I've never been the type of fellow to have unaccounted for cash just setting around. So how I forgot there was a stash of cash in my paperback books is more than surprising. I'm having a difficult time remembering a period in my life when I had an abundance of 'mad' money' just laying around.
I'd like to say it came at a point in my life when I was really cash strapped the discovery saved the day - but that wouldn't be true. But what the heck - anytime an unexpected windfall comes your way it a cause for celebration. So I guess the moral of my story is next time you find yourself scanning through shelves of old paperback books at a resale shop, it pays to fan through the pages. You just might find an old book I donated years before making my discovery with a five dollar bill inside.
