@jfreedy - I would hesitate to call that a Barling based on the E.B in a diamond on the stem. Historically, Barling is spelled out in script on the shank and the only example of a Barling with the E.B. on it was without a diamond around it. In fact, the E.B. was over the initials W.B.
I also have a question about the hallmarks on the silver band. The last one is a Lion but can you make out what the other two shapes are? That would help with the dating of the band. (the E.B. may also indicate where the band was produced instead of the manufacturer of the pipe).
I also had no luck in finding any mention of a "Trombone" patented pipe in my reference material but I'm still looking.
@jfreedy this is from someone I use as a source for estate pipe info:
"The Trombone Pipe Co was an English company so your pipe was made in England. The “EB” in the diamond is actually an “EP”. That stands for electro plate which had to be used if they put hallmarks on the band. That was pretty common in the 60s I believe put don’t hold me to the dating. I’m not sure."
I just emailed him a picture of the logo so he could see that it is a EB and not EP
Unbelievable! 44° here with full sun... Feels like 60° after that cold snap. Taking advantage: cleaned the cars inside and out. Now taking time out to try out a newly acquired meerschaum (after some extensive cleaning) with some Creme Brulee...
Another beautiful day, I am having Peter stokkebye luxury English blend in my HIS bent. Accompanied by Vinny, and a lovely vodka, lime soda and candied orange rind adult beverage.
Can't stay out too late due to working overtime in the morning, but it's finally "warm" enough to enjoy a pipe without turning into Frosty. G&H's Kendal Plug in my Charles Towne Cob.
@Londy3 Ok, here is that Stein, I finally got around to taking a pic. Having a little steak and potatoes and a smoke of some Peterson’s 150th Anniversary (2015) tobacco in a Peterson 150th Anniversary “Founder’s Edition” pipe. Just so you know, it’s a big pipe....and that is a big ol’ bag o’ Lay’s. Stein might hold a couple of liters/half gallon? Heck, the pipe might also 😳. It’s around 53F today and just a very slight breeze, nice day here. Sounds like tomorrow we get the “Polar Vortex” and it’s suppose to drop to -5 and snow. Listening to some Blues on the satellite....funny thing, listening to the “blues” almost always makes me feel “not blue”👍🏻 By the way Londy3, your “adult beverage” sounds tasty....except I think I might like gin instead of vodka🙂
Beautiful day. I made BBQ ribs, county green beans and baked potatoes for the family tonight. While cooking, I had Mac Barren Virginia blend in my MM cob. Had to relax with some Woodford Reserve with a couple candied orange rinds.
@Londy3 I have used it when I first got it....for Mountain Dew (the soda). I wasn’t even legal for “adult beverages” when I got it, and it was so long ago I was legal in Montana when I was 18. I have not used it since, but I might show up to a friends “home micro-brewery” for “Stein Night” sometime....and try to help drain a keg😬
@Londy3 I make candied orange rind occasionally. I end up eating it as candy nearly as fast as I make it, I have never tried it as a drink garnish. It’s kind of like when I make venison jerky....it disappears just as quickly.
We went from the low 40s to the mid-60s in 24 hours and as usual it really screwed up my sinuses. In other words, no smoking for me until my sinuses clear up.

I had a picture of that:
@jfreedy
I could not find any references to a trombone pipe, but I did find a Barling equipped with an Albatross bone
