I remember walking to school by myself to 1st grade about five blocks through town. Junior High was about double that, I usually rode my bike. I wonder how many kids get to do that these days? I walked the two blocks to the bus stop in highschool until I bought my first car the summer between junior and senior year and got it running (1953 CJ-3B $200).
My dad even had boots…I think🤔 You have heard of people living in tar paper shacks? My father did actually live in a tar paper shack, in North Dakota in the early 30’s….they have cool winters there. My dad told me that when he was little 6-10? he and a few? of his brothers shared a bed. They would have a “hot water bottle” for their feet when they went to bed. He said, when they woke up in the morning the water was frozen….I don’t think he was embellishing the truth either. My dad was a character, and had his faults, but he was not a liar/fibber/embellisher. I will have to find the picture of he and his twin brother in front of the shack they lived in, with a family of 15+? Heck it looks like it might have been a repurposed chicken coop😳. It does happen to be summer though. Good thing, you can see through the holes in the tar paper😳.
I’d have to work much harder at it. I use to work pretty hard, farming, ranching, grounds keeping, but I always had a draft free gas heated house, plenty of food, clothes and shoes. They were not fancy but they did the job.
I have actually lived in an old bunk house, for several months while working in the summer, without indoor plumbing. Ten dollars a day an found. Ahh, those were the days.
@KA9FFJ The Aldi's that just opened down here is cheaper than Walmart. My daughter and I did a comparison. We made a shopping list online at Walmart and then went and bought basically the same items at Aldi. While Aldi didn't have the same name brands, we compared the brands they did have to the Great Value Walmart brands.
At Walmart, the cost would have been $64. At Aldi the cost was $41.
WILSON,
WY — Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who famously started two wars
in the Middle East and shot a dude in the face while hunting, now says
Donald Trump is the greatest threat America has ever faced.
"Donald
Trump is an evil reprobate and a big meanie, and a danger to our
Constitutional rights," growled the retired politician who orchestrated
the brutal torture of hundreds of detainees who were held without trial.
"We must make sure he never gets elected to office again. And also,
vote for my daughter, Liz."
Political
consultants applauded Liz Cheney for her brilliant move of tapping on
of the most hated politicians in history to help boost her political
chances. Initial polling indicates her approval has climbed .0000002
percentage points since Dick Cheney's statement.
"If there's a
singular figure universally adored by every hard-working American, it's
Dick Cheney," said a spokesperson for the campaign. "We are grateful for
his endorsement, and look forward to seeing her represent the citizens
of Wyoming."
Trump was quick to respond to Cheney's statement,
saying "Poor little Dick Cheney! He's so mad that I got elected
president instead of him. Boo hoo! Maybe he should stop shooting dudes
in the face! Sorry, Dick!"
At publishing time, Liz Cheney's approval dipped again after her Dad accidentally shot another dude in the face.
Wisconsin drivers couldn't believe their eyes as port-a-potties spilled onto interstate
I like this one quote in particular!
"All of a sudden out of nowhere, there was a, a what? I didn't know what
it was at first until I hit it, and I said, 'Oh my God I think I just
hit a port-a-John in the middle of I-94,'" Hicks said.
or this one
"One of the responding sheriff's deputies could be heard on radio
communications saying he was "responding to that crappy situation.""

😳🥶
I often wonder if we could survive under the conditions that our grandparents grew up in.
Obviously there are people out there making a lot more money than I am...

Is the person actually making more, or just getting more “free money” from the government?
Good question...🤔
