@ghostsofpompeii With all the Caterpiller Tractors, dump trucks and backhoes running at 7:30 AM each day in my front yard, I also have a yapper next door. Its lived there for years, and yet every time I walk into my back yard, it starts. The other day I asked my wife if she thought I would get in trouble if I smacked it with a Louisville Slugger(I'm to old to play softball any more), but I have a hankering for a base hit. She discouraged me. I guess we all need a voice of reason once in awhile, or in my case all the time.
@ghostsofpompeii My son had 2 yappers next door. He found a motion detector that would give off an ultra high pitched sound the entire time the dogs were in the yard. He set it up on his fence facing the neighbor's backyard. The dogs wouldn't bark at all, they only clawed at the neighbor's door wanting back in and away from the high pitched sound. Might be worth investigating. If interested, I can get the name of the company from my son...
I've been binge watching old Charlie Chan movies. I've been collecting various box sets of the Charlie Chan Collection throughout the years and I have five sets. Each box set contains four movies. Since each flick is just a little over an hour it's pretty easy to watch two or three movies a night. I guess it's strange that I'm watching movies about a Chinese detective while being quarantined for the past 57 days due to a Chinese virus - but who can explain the workings of the human brain? And mine operates on a completely different level than most rational human beings.
@ghostsofpompeii Coincidence, maybe. I too have been watching Charlie Chan movies for the past 6 weeks,, streaming free on Roku.
While I have watched most but not all at this point, it has been interesting in many different ways, the different Charlies, and sons, the increase in humor when Sidney Toler took over etc...
They must have been dam popular in the day because they made roughly 44 movies,
There were a number of bigger actors like Caesar Romaro and William Holden in there early years in some of those films.
You don't see too many on cable or broadcast TV any more because many, (the ones with Mantan Moreland AKA Birmingham Brown) are considered to be culturally inappropriate these days; by those who erroneously believe they are woke or some other BS.
I myself personally, like the ones with Moreland the best as he cracks me up with his expressive face and voice. Obviously it is racial stereotyping of a sort (harmless) but it was intended and he was a comedian.
Of the two best known Charlie actors I like Sidney Toler best.
I was watching the Red Skelton shows that just started being “broadcast” again. I use to love him when I was a little squirt. Today, I am amazed at what he got away with on a family TV show back in the day. Nothing over the top, but still things that would not be shown today in primetime. Frankly, I’m surprised what slides through, and he still cracks me up. The shows are on cable/satellite and late night, so maybe that is why.
@PappyJoe OMG, I can hear the shrill voices and righteous indignation now: I had a humorous bit to add, but decided not to do political humor at Joe Biden's expense.
@motie2 🤔 Not sure, but I read all his books while in college, and I don't remember "Quantum Solace" and "Skyfall". I do remember reading "Casino Royale". Those are the 3 last 007s that I have ( Daniel Craig )...
I'm actually borderline climbing on a water tower and picking off passerby's. I'm creeping up on 80 days of house arrest and it's finally taking it's toll.
I'm a homebody by nature and have been known to stay at home for weeks on end and binge watch TV for hours ... but then I always had the option of leaving the house. But this has become ridiculous. First the Coronavirus and now riots and civil unrest ... I'm not only stir crazy after being quarantined - but actually afraid to leave the house for fear of being injured or killed.
When I watched that iconic giant crystal ball rise in New York City on New Years Eve little did I know what horrors awaited us in 2020..
@ghostsofpompeii; I understand how you feel. To go to the store or pharmacy involves jockeying cars around to maintain our parking space within half a block of our house during our street project. So I don't get out much, and when I do, I wear an uncomfortable mask inside any business. Our town isn't a focal point of domestic criminal activity, but I still pack if I go much beyond our city limits. Even exercising my second amendment rights bothers me, because I feel if I am placed in a situation where I feel that my life is in danger, I will shot someone. And what's even more frightening, I don't think it would bother me all that much. We just have to keep the faith and remember that this to shall pass.
I’m not sure if it’s something I’m doing to stay sane or a hobby I’ve always wanted to try. I ordered a bunch of blending tobaccos. I found many recipes online and made 10 different blends today. Mostly 12-15 grams so as not to waste mistakes or blends that I don’t care for. Mostly English/Balkan blends. Even though the blends are supposed to meld for at least three weeks, I did sample a blend that is supposed to be close to my Balkan Sasieni. Wow! If it gets better in three weeks, I’m going to blend a ton of it!
I remember the Woolworth's in Biddeford, ME put all their Christmas decorations stock out on the shelves in August, the summer before it closed forever.
@RockyMountainBriar the kids like seeing it I guess? To me it just looks like more shit to take out and repack and then take out again in 6 months. But hey what do I know. This is my first global pandemic. 😂
@Zouave Well, the first “chicken little” “pandemic” fueled by crazy internet and media hype. I’m of the old school, what doesn’t’ kill you makes you stronger, and if it does kill you, it was meant to be.

You know, in the politically correct world of Hollywood today, those movies would never have been made.
3 more to go...
Ian F. authored, or including the more recent?
Those are the 3 last 007s that I have ( Daniel Craig )...
I highly recommend Solo, a James Bond Adventure, by William Boyd, I picked it up in hardback for a couple of bucks at a Barnes and Noble bookstore.
IMHO, the best "secret agent" novel ever written is I AM PILGRIM by Terry Hayes

Now that’s crazy.
