Smoking my refurbed Yello-Bole Carburetor #4640 this afternoon with some C&D 4th Gen E Stokkebye “Resolution” loaded up. From what I have ascertained, this pipe was made about 1936-1939.
I went back and bought three of these Yello-Bole Aristocrat Airogrates. Paid $10 each. I’m smoking some Acadian Perique in this one. Giving the other two to my sons.
I have my Pete System Deluxe Rustic 2s loaded with a mix of C&D “Espresso” (a big pinch I had left over), with the rest being Five Brothers Burley…about a 1 to 5 mix.
Have the grandkids through Wednesday. Unless their schedule changes, looks like Thursday before my next pipe. But I wouldn't have it any other way... I really love those kiddos...
was able to get a hike in before the rain sets in. Brought along my MM Charlestown Cobbler And some Rivendell to have in it. I took the picture standing in the bed of abandoned lock #62 on the Erie Canal. When they widened the canal around 1905 they abandoned a bunch of the old locks. I'm going to have to come back with the metal detector.
I brought out my Peterson Gold mounted Mark Twain #46/1000. I bought the pipe sans the gold band 🙁 for $25 shipped. My guess is that some jerk scrapped the band for cash😖. I refurbished the pipe and sent it to Peterson to have the gold band replaced. They actually still had the commemorative roll stamp for the band “Mark Twain Commemorative 1935-1985”. The hallmark year on the band is incorrect, but it is what it is. It’s still “factory”, just not original. I have it loaded with Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. “Bosun’s Cut Plug”. Peterson also sent it back with a new box and pipe sock (not the originals, but still nice of them, and a few aluminum “P” stem logos I requested. Here’s the snapper…it cost me $250 for that replacement gold band, but the pipe is happy to be whole again. Rocky Mountain Briars, “Saving history one pipe at a time”.
Of course, though, @RockyMountainBriar didn't have to send it off to get a new band...he could have just cut a piece from a beer can and used that instead...probably wouldn't be much different from what came out of the factory!
This is what it looked like after I cleaned, stained and polished it, before it took it’s jaunt to Ireland. I don’t have any before pictures🙁. Let’s just say, it was well used….but not abused….except by the jerk that scrapped the gold band. I guess it could have been lost, but I doubt it. I saw a seller on EBay that was raping pipes of their sterling silver and gold, nice pipes too….the bastard. I haven’t seen the seller in a few years though. I may be profiling here, but even their EBay handle was “sheisty” in my opinion.

Hobbits Friend in a little Medico. 😀
Nothing like a good old Medico now and then...
But I wouldn't have it any other way... I really love those kiddos...

Nice looking pipe, Brother.
For $25, who wouldn't!

I had to get a shot in there somewhere! LOL
Oh hell, you’re right, that would have saved me some cashola for another Peterson….or a dozen😖
That’s a nice old pipe.👍🏻
