Good morning! Cracked open this BriarWorks "Back Down South". A VaPer blend that didn't receive a lot of fanfare or great reviews when it was introduced, but I find it to be quite satisfying. More on the Perique side, many say there's a flavoring added, I don't think there is, just the fermentation to the tobaccos that gives it a Bourbon-ish flavor. No bite, actually kinda buttery finish, the aroma is very subtle and sweet. No prolonged aftertaste, but it fills your palate in a delightful way. This jar is the 3rd I've enjoyed and has been "cellared" for a while. It's a tobacco you'll want to sip to get the full range of flavors.. When I built my shed/shop in the back yard I didn't install any AC. Several years ago I built a wall unit into the side. I'm so glad I did. I do the majority of my pipe smoking there. Winter cold is handled by my wood burning stove. Today it is 92 degrees w/66% humidity. In my shed it is 78 degrees w/48% humidity. So I'm enjoying some Peterson Irish Whiskey in my Molina. Life is good!
Went with a favorite Stogie while foolishly out doing yardwork, a Ramon Bueso Genesis "Muy Bueso". Blazing sun, 96 degrees and RH about 65%. That damn near killed me. But, the cigar kept me going.
That's a Thomas Cristiano Signature Series Grade C pipe. Cristiano started working at the S.M. Frank company making Kaywoodies in 1968 and stayed there for 10 years before starting his own company - Cristom Imports and Exports in Tampa. He created three pipe lines: Cristiano, T. Cristiano Signature Series and Calabresi (a sub brand of the Calabresi was the Londonaire). Supposedly, he made Kaywoodie pipes from the mid-80s until 1992. He died in 2005.
I found this pipe in the collection of estate pipes I've been helping a lady sell. She gave me this and a Castello Sea Rock KKK for my efforts.
Smoking some C&D “Bijou” in my own Reverse Calabash Dublin this evening on the patio. It has cooled down a bit and is quite nice with a slight breeze in the shade.
@KA9FFJ I really miss my old Tinder Box. It was in one of the larger malls here in my area, and when they designated the mall 'smoke free' it really hurt the business. Before the smoking directive customers could go in and try a sample before buying ... and it usually resulted in a sale. But once you could only get a whiff of their house blends by sniffing the jars it cut down on my blind buying. It was about a year later that the shop closed it's doors. I really enjoyed their house blend "North Sea".
As we just turned to the Summer solstice with a 113 heat index in Florida I just opened a tin of Blood Red Moon and my Peterson Halloween pipe looking forward to Fall

First a bowl from my "scrap" jar in my Maestro de Paja and then a bowl of Hadde's Best Irish in my Ron Powell Blasted Bent Billard. Just had chilled water to drink.
@KA9FFJ .Thanks Marine, Sure Miss TB, Their was one TB a few years back quite a few miles from me, went to it and of course it was out of Nort Sea, went back a few months later and still didn’t have it. I came to the conclusion this TB only had tobacco as a side bar.I mean it was dam near like a grocery store, not what you would call a real TB. And they were expensive as hell. It was fun while it lasted.
A while ago I was given several tins of various English blends. Prior to me knowing a bit more about pipe smoking I placed alot of them in unmarked jars. Now it's all a mystery blend with a strong presence of Westminster, and a sad....sad addition of various McLelland tobaccos. Sorry, at the time I didn't know any better. Tonight this mystery blend is on the menu while I survive the tropical heat wave.
Smoking a before bed bowl of Astleys #99 Royal Tudor full latakia mixture ( a Kohlhase & Kopp blend); picked up the tin at the pipe club meeting last night
The label says its Latakia, Oriental/Turkish, black cavendish, and Virginia, however, full latakia mixture in this instance means almost none.
So while you can't really say it's an English, it is quite a good smoke as the base seems to be Virginias and they are quite good.
