Relaxing with some Sutliff County Cork (a Virginia/Burley blend fused with imported Irish Cream) in a FE.RO squashed tomato. Wished they still made this blend... By the way, if you look closely, you'll notice the Peter Stokkebye signature pipe rack I'm using for the pic...
Dog tired as I smoked a pork shoulder and started it at 2:00 am, ( and no it did not ghost the pipe) anyway the inlaws and my daughter and my wife have left and I have the place to my self, (this should happen more often).
Smoking some Capt. Earls Night Watch in a straight brown brushed Stanwell pot.
Smoking some more “Devil’s Holiday” in my Pete 7/4/99 XL90. I have chamfered the tenon and dropped and smoothed the mortise slightly. Whomever owned this pipe before me kinda thrashed it out. I decided to load the first quarter of the bowl with some “Five Brothers” shag cut burley as a sort of filter/sacrificial dottle. The “Devil’s Holiday” tobacco cut packs kinda tight. These bents are difficult, almost impossible to smoke to the bottom anyway. I have a big jar of the pouch burley that was handy and it will not bother me as much to dump some of it as dottle since it is pretty inexpensive tobacco.
Sutliff Burma Road, and aromatic English blend; with Virginia, Latakia, and Cavendish, with rum and vanilla flavor. Far surpasses Lane HGL in this category. I’m gonna ride this one for a while.
@motie2, sort of interested in the blends you’ve mentioned , namely the Burma Road and the lane HJL, is Burma Road an English Blend? Knowing my penchants for Aromatic blends, do you think I would like or not?
@buflosab HGL (RLP-6 plus Latakia) was but a stop along the way. But I think Burma Road is the real deal. Call it an aromatic English or an American English blend, but it does it for me: Virginia, Cavendish, Latakia, rum, and vanilla. Bullseye.
Next blend on this journey is African Queen, which adds Perique. We’ll see......
@PappyJoe I did not notice much of a difference except maybe the fruitiness was a bit muted, but the DH was a bit dry, so some of the “forest berries” were gone anyway. I could definitely tell when I was actually burning the Five Brothers at the bottom, then it was all burley.
I know we're getting into the hottest months of the year but today I smoked C&D "Autumn Evening". Sat in the blazing sun turning myself lobster red - but I enjoyed every minute of it. Just because I can't leave my house doesn't mean I can't go outside and sit in my yard.
With the rain bringing the temperature down to 77 degrees it was comfortable enough to sit on the porch and have a pipe. I couldn't stop myself from opening another new tin, this time HU Haddes Best Irish.
Decided to pay Tinderbox a visit. Their lounge is closed, but the store is open. While there, I purchased some Black Russian (Creamy vanilla, DARK chocolate with molasses) with a base of mostly black Cavendish and Cavendish. I'll be trying it out either tonight or tomorrow... I didn't really need any more tobacco, but I try to always give the store support, no matter how small...
If anyone wants to "try out" the TPL Virtual Pipe Club tonight you should. It's super easy and great to hang out with fellow pipe smokers. Here's the information you'll need. C'mon... smoke a bowl with us!!
After letting it dry for a couple of hours, I loaded some Tinder Box Black Russian in my Mr. Brog and made a few rounds to some stores. Really like this blend. Good flavor, great aroma and luxurious thick smoke... I see more of this blend (or one similar if I can find it), in my future...

How does the burley change the flavor of the Devil's Holiday?

And the price is righteous!

Buy it by the ounce, in bulk, at P&C. It's really cheap.
