Another fun dog story. My Dad planted a grape arbor over our patio. Once a large snake climbed up the vine for some reason. Then he lost his balance and fell on top of one our dogs that was asleep on the patio. I have never seen him move to fast. The other dog ran over to see what happened. But he didn't see the snake. When he looked down, his front legs were on one side of the snake and the back legs were on the other side. Again, jump straight up and disappear.
Here's my Staffordshire Bull Terrier, great breed be ready to put in some work in but well worth the time. Nova loves being by my side especially when I smoke my pipe she barks at the smoke.
Gordon Only "special" people understand that frame of mind. Although i LOVE dogs having them multiple times in m life, we have kitty cats who are just wonderful to be with. These cats are often more like dogs than most cats as they fetch, play anytime, snuggle, LOVE to be brushed and just provide absolute love and affection. They are strictly indoor pussy cats who are allowed out on the screened porch which they love. I cherish everyone one of them.
@pwkarch I was raised with dogs (Boston terriers) from age 4 to 18, when I left for seminary. Once married, we started having cats, as an apartment, when you're gone all day, is no place for a dog. We still have Madonna, a rescue cat from St. Hubert's Animal Shelter.
@motie2 Hanging in there buddy.......still lots of issues with which to deal, and just to screw with me my back issues are back (my own damn fault). I will survive but not as a "happy camper" so to speak. I will send you a message when I get a break.
One of our granddaughters now has a dog and we are trying to figure out what breed it is other than "cute". Any ideas guys? I'm joking but it looks like it has a pom pom shoved up its butt for a tail.
Growing up, we lived on lots of land, and few neighbors. For some reasons, we occasionally found dogs abandoned and left in our area. Several of them were adopted, eventually. One of them was "Black Dog", as in "Go Away, Black Dog!" Apparently, he was more stubborn than we were. Mom finally started feeding him. He turned out to be great at hunting racoons and other animals. My Dad was not happy to hear the wild barking, that would not stop, until he finally got out of bed and shot the varmint.
Today my wife and I said goodbye to our wonderful dog, Chloe. After putting up an incredible fight, a brain tumor was just too much for our old dog to fight.
We treated her like royalty today. She was loved, held, given a feast, and stopped at her favorite sniffing spot. We held her in our arms as she left this world to go to the next.
It breaks my heart, as she was my first dog, and truly showed me what wonderful creatures they are. I didn’t lost a pet, but something more. I can take some comfort in knowing that she is no longer blind, and can run once more like she used to, and when I go to heaven, I know she’ll be there waiting for me.
Goodbye my friend, you will always live on in my heart.
@thebadgerpiper SO very sorry for your loss. I have been there so many times over the years with my little furry friends. It is a heartbreak and you never really get over it. These wonderful companions carve their initials in our hearts that then stays with us. Do yourself a favor, go right out and adopt another little friend as soon as possible. Your new little friend will not replace your lost little friend, but you will give another doggie a chance to experience love and companionship. Your little friend in heaven would want that.
@thebadgerpiper I am SO sorry for your loss. May it help you take comfort knowing that her life was well spent and enriched because of her loving owners. I sympathize and empathize with you...
Thank you everyone for the kind words. It's been a rough weekend for my wife and I, and it'll still take some time before we're able to move on. However, the support we've received has helped us a lot.
A true story told by both my Dad and my Uncle. The day my Dad left home in the early days of World War 2, his pet cat left home as well. The family just assumed he was lost and did not see the cat again during the entire war time. My Dad went to the European Theatre as an Infantry Scout serving in North Africa, then Participated in the Landings at Salerno Italy as part of the 36th Infantry Division. On September 13, 1943 he was captured by the Germans and spent the next nearly 2 years as a POW. After repatriation and hospital care, he returned home. The very same day he arrived home his cat showed up as well, as if to just check on my Dad. After some "homecoming" love the cat again left never to be seen again. Don't ever tell me animals do not have incredible intuition and souls....just look into their eyes.
I had a big ole black tomcat that was my buddy since I was 12 years old (he was a kitten). When I went off to college in Bozeman, he went on "walk-about" apparently somewhere around my Billings. When I came back to Billings from college for good a few years later, he showed up again. He was around for awhile (a year?), then we never saw him again. He was a free-roaming city dwelling tomcat (I know, he should have been neutered, but that was before all the rules, and my family were farmers and were use to farm cats). It's hard to believe how much we interacted with the farm cats without any worries about rabies (that is some scary stuff by the way...pretty much if you get rabies...you're dead, there is no cure).

I assume that you are right on the front line of the violent protests. May God be with you and keep you safe!
Handsome animal!
