Zouave and Londy3 thank you guys for your kind thoughts and words. Being new to this group I can say a few things about the type of men that are here, you guys are real and not afraid to show it. For this I know I am in the right place and I know I have joined the right group. Again my wife and I want to thank you all for the kindness. You are true men and I could not ask for anything more than to share a passion such as the pipe with a good group of guys such as yourselves. I raise my glass (or pipe) to all of you for the kind welcoming to the support of a lost and loved little animal..... cheers! ⚓️
It has been a long time since anyone has posted photos of their favorite dog or cat. I have to be honest, I'm not a big fan of dogs and I hate cats. Sorry dog and cat lovers, its just the way I feel. I have had dogs in the past and some were great. My main problem is that they are always on the wrong side of the door. This summer my son and daughter-in-law took our grand daughters on vacation for a couple of weeks and left my middle grand daughter's dog "Maverick" at home. We agreed to go to their house and feed and water him and let him out for awhile everyday. They couldn't get him into a kennel, so we agreed to the inconvenience. The second day I felt sorry for him being alone all day, so we loaded him up and brought him to our house. I told my bride, "one mess and he goes back". He didn't make a mess, he let us know when he needed to go outside and was a perfect house guest. I nicknamed him "shadow" because he followed me everywhere. Please understand, I don't want another dog, but "Maverick" is the sweetest dog, that I have been around in my life. They now call him my grand dog. What can I say?
My cat Scrat passed a couple of years ago. I brought Felix home as a small cat (about 3 months old). He is quite the character. Here he is posing for a “beefcake” calendar
@RockyMountainBriar, @Londy3; Please note that I tagged both of your pet photos as Awesome! I don't know if it was the Irish Whiskey or the fact that you both are my brothers, but there it is!
I look at animals and people in similar but opposite ways. I like animals until they give me a reason to dislike them, I dislike people until they give me a reason to like them!
This is the new guy around the house. Prior to this wild beast, we had a deaf, blind Pug. I used to enjoy the plodding slow walks with him because it gave me a chance to sneak away and have a nice smoke along the way. This lunatic embarks on each walk like he is getting shot out of a rifle barrel. I think me and him have some work to do before we graduate to the lunting dog walk.
@motie2 You have quite the artistic SWMBO. That could go in the “beefcake” or “bunny” cat calender. Depending on gender of course🙂 Yes, there are still “mainly” only two genders in my book. I will concede that there are occasional outliers.
@Zouave; You have brought back some fond and at the same time sad memories. I had a schnauzer in the 80's and 90's that I named Watson. He was the smartest dog I ever owned. I didn't need to speak commands, all I had to do was look at him and he knew what to do or not do. He was my buddy and I miss him to this very day. He is also the reason I will never own another dog. I could never find another dog as smart as he was. For several years, after his death when i got up at night I thought I saw him in the shadows. I've never told this to anyone before, for fear that I would be thought of a crazy. Maybe I am, but I loved that dog.
@opipeman thanks for sharing the story. They sure do leave a mark on us. There is a Native American belief that says when you reach the afterlife you have to cross a bridge to get in. Guarding that bridge are all the animals that you came in contact with durring your lifetime, and they all decide if you can pass or not. Comforting to think about....then again I have killed a shit ton of squirrels over the years for chewing up my house and shed. If that legend holds true, I'm gonna have an army of rodents telling me to get lost when my time comes to cross that bridge. 😂 Hopefully all my former dogs can chase them off.

Probably both 😆
Maybe Maverick is “bringing you around”🙂
OMG I think you may be right!
What is the breed of that “beast”🙂
That's perfect. I concur.
We adopted Winston, a Sheltie, from one of my wife's coworkers this summer. Hi energy but good off leash!

You know it would be nice just to see them again, whether they let me in or not.
You're not crazy. Thanks for sharing with us.
