Gordon just happened by here and saw your post, I hope all is well with you and your family, and hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am still battling my Cancer with continuing chemo every 3 weeks. Sometimes I just want to quit. We are having financial issues due to income issues. My wife broke her hip over a year ago, had surgery, and had "hardware" inserted. Next she will get periodic injections in her back. I am still trying to work sitting at this computer for hours and hours and still not doing enough work to pay all of the bills. Thank God for SS and my VA Disability each month. I thought life got easier in our old age......boy was I wrong. So I hope and pray all is good with you, and have a Merry and Blessed Christmas. I will try and stay somewhat active here as time allows. God Bless you.
Good Morning! It's an unusually warm December morning in NH and all the chores are done! I'm starting off with GLP Abingdon in a bent MM Boone along with a cup of coffee.
While using my new to me tobacco rope slicer earlier today, I was enchanted and lured by the Siren’s call of the “Black XX”😵💫. I am going for it, even with the trepidation of “ghosting” my house….I don’t feel like going outside🥶…..even though it’s not that cold. It’s good to be the king (of my abode). I chose my little Peterson Junior Lovat for its small bowl, even at that, it’s only filled half way and it’s still about twice the amount of what my (usual “Black XX” pipe) Baby WDC holds. I respect the “XX”. I just had a nice meal of Eggs Benedict and have a strong, dark cup of coffee and a soda water with lemon to pair. This fine shag cut with about 30 minutes dry time is smoldering wonderfully. We’ll see how I can take (or not) the Vitamin-N hit….I may be able to load this little guy to the top some day. It’s good to have goals🙂. A tip from your uncle RMB: Don’t “freight train” this stuff and you’ll make out ok…usually😬
@KA9FFJ 😂😂 It’s all good, it didn’t even move the Vitamin-N needle. I don’t know if that is good….or bad🤔 Next time, I fill the little Pete to the top. It’s not an all-day or even a regular tobacco to have in my rotation, but this stuff is tasty when I trot it out.
Well, I have a full belly of Johnny’s Eggs Benedict, and a Dark Roast Latte with some honey that came from my friend the hobbyist beekeeper over by Red Lodge, MT. I have decided to temp fate two days in a row and used my cool new tobacco rope cutter on some Sam Gawith “Brown No.4 Kendal Twist” and stuff the little Pete half full with it. No.4 is supposed to be even higher in Vitamin-N than the “Black XX”. The No.4 held together for some thin coins a bit better than the “XX”, weird, because it seems drier than the “XX”🤔
@KA9FFJ Thank you, the Yello-Bole is in nice shape now, it was a bit dirty before my refurb😬. The before/after is posted on page 35 of the “Pipe Refinishing” thread.
“Maple Spice”: I was hesitant about the tobacco at first, I’m not a big fan of maple flavor, but it’s not like I hate it either. The tobacco turned out to be quite enjoyable. At first light and a few puffs, the maple was pretty strong, but it died down after a minute or two and became quite pleasant. It was not a tobacco I would have purchased myself, but thanks to a fellow TPL member that gifted me this generous sample, I may find myself placing an order for a tasty bagfull.
@RockyMountainBriar Tnx for the review. Much appreciated. Is that blend prone to bite? The only reason I ask is that, in my personal experience, I have found that maple flavorings have that tendency. They must be slower paced and not pushed, or my tongue feels it later. Could be just me though...

Starting the day with GLP Lagonda in a Pride. We're supposed to hit 50° today so the plan is to finish up the outdoors for the winter.
Sweet, Brother.
How is that pipe similar? I don’t see it. The only similarity I see is that it’s a smoking pipe.🤔

Put you on my list...

Is that a Dunhill, with that white dot on the stem?

Should we call 911 now, or wait until you give us an update?

Does this mean you'll probably be giving us an update from the ER?😬
No sir, all went well, again, no Vitamin-N hit whatsoever and another tasty smoke🙂👍🏻
That carburetor looks to be in excellent shape.
How was that Maple Spice? Never had it...

LL-7 in my St. Nick pipe...
It did not bite at all for me, but I do smoke pretty slowly.
