Smoking an old Yello-Bole (1930-1939) “shank logo” shape 3004 for the first time since I refurbished it several years ago. Yes, it has my favorite “scoop stinger” in it. I have it loaded with some tasty C&D “Low Country Santee”. I used a magnifier to try to find any fills..there is one on the right flank that took me “forever” to find. There are a few tiny pits that may have had fills at one time. I can tell it has been dropped, probably on concrete at some point, so some of the tiny pits may be dings? It has a decent crosscut grain…and this was a Kaywoodie “second” back in the ‘30’s’. Oh, it looks like it could have been drilled just slightly off-center, maybe? It has a slightly larger airway than normal, so maybe a previous owner may have augered it off-center?
Yesterday was the first day of winter and it was 17° this morning! Chores are done and coffee is made. Now it's time for GLP Westminster in a Peterson System 312 and a delicious cup of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe.
@RockyMountainBriar Beautiful pipe. And you and I both know it doesn't have to be a perfect pipe to give a perfectly good smoke. That was a good find. How did you come about its acquisition?
Drizzling all day here (better than fighting snow), so it triggered a blend I haven't done in a while. Doing some Ashton Rainy Day in my St. Nick meer. Been smoking this meer quite a bit since I received it, but with Christmas and trying get a little tan started on it, I've been making this pipe a priority and have temporarily thrown out my loose pipe rotation... After Christmas, my plan is to pretty much shelve it until MMM (March Meerschaum Madness)...
@KA9FFJ I just kept an eye out for reasonably priced Shank logo inlayed Yello-Bole’s on EBay. It has been buffed a lot, most of the shank stamps are very faint or gone. That is why I can’t narrow down the date better. I don’t know if it was stamped “Honey Cured Briar” or “Cured With Real Honey”?
Well, probably one of the last bowls I'll be doing for a while. Family coming in and I don't smoke around guests and family. So I decided to break out my green and red Paronelli again to enjoy some C&D Berries and Cream... Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year brothers...
I’ve been sick, probably “The Rona”….oh well, you can’t keep me down. I’m firing up a Brebbia Pura Jubilee 1992 “Sax” loaded with some Esoterica “Dunbar” this evening. I bought and refurbished this pipe several years ago….this is the first time smoking it for me.
I have nearly the full set of the Brebbia Jubilee series in smooth finish. The only one I am missing is the Silver Cap Billiard. I was cheap and missed out on the bids on the two I have seen in the last 10 years or so😖. There is a sandblasted version at SPE now, but not what I want….but it’s still pulling at me🤪
@RockyMountainBriar You have too many pipes!... Or is there such a thing? ... ... Anyway, you know my address.😉 Tip: Wait until all the holiday postal rush is over before you send me 10 or 20...😏 PS - Love that pipe tool, you can send it along with the pipes. 🤭
I'm just back from a beverage run, I finished last night's Abingdon on the trip. Everything is put away and I'm taking a break with GLP Westminster in a bent Apple Diplomat along with a cup of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee.
I've been busy helping my Bride get ready for Christmas and her annual open house for various groups of friends. Her Macular Degeneration has progressed to the point she has trouble reading and etc. Sooo, I haven't been able to burn any bowls of late. After the holidays I'll get back to it. If I still remember how.
@motie2; She was scheduled for an injection in her eye that has not advanced as far, but when we went to the appointment the Doctor told us that there had been some infections with the shots and she couldn't get one. Nothing since. I don't have any experience with catheters, Thank God.
We're starting the day with fog instead of snow! It's a good morning for GLP Westminster in a bent MM Apple Diplomat along with coffee. I hope everyone has a fantastic Christmas day!

Macular degeneration is a bitch: eyeball injections every three months or so, to slow down the gathering blindness.

Nice. Yeah it's beautiful out here too. In the 60s/70s
