I’m having a great time with my antique tobacco rope slicer, I can put it down, I’m slicing up everything😬 Tonight I found my Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. “Happy Brown Bogie” and sliced away. I rubbed the thin coins out, and in that time it dried beautifully. I stuffed them in a Yello-Bole Imperial that was one of the first pipes I totally re-stemmed (with a pre-molded stem blank), a short one. I like short tobacco pipes😬
@Balisong, @Whoispra: This stem’s tenon was cut down and fitted with the VFH tenon turning tool before I had my lathe. You can see, it makes a nice tight joint if you are careful. I inlayed a thin piece of brass tubing to give the stem the look of a factory Yello-Bole stem logo inlay and “kicked it up a notch”🙂. It also has the original Yello-Bole “scoop stinger” fitted. Most “stingers” are crap, but I find these types to work exceptionally well, exactly as intended.
I was trying to remember if this “Happy Brown Bogie” was the same or very similar to the Samuel Gawith “Brown No. 4? It’s not, it has “something else”, something “sharp”, something “floral”, “musty”, that I can’t suss out? It might be tonquin, or “buffaler shit”😳. I personally prefer the SG Brown No. 4. I’m not sure the “Bogie” is any heavier in Vitamin-N, but it’s not what I would call pleasant to smoke for me. I’m not dumping it out, but I probably won’t smoke it again, until I forget how it was….I should really start a tobacco journal🤔. Nah, caution to the wind, I like surprises😬
Good Morning! The snow is lightly falling and I'm enjoying my usual early morning pipe, GLP Abingdon in a bent MM Apple Diplomat along with a cup of Columbian coffee.
Smoking some C&D “Sunbear Tupelo 2023” in a Savinelli New Art Brown 114KS this evening. I have some hot Rooibos tea in the Ember mug to pair. I’m not sure it’s a good choice, the tobacco is walking all over the tea….oh well.
After dinner, I stoked my Tsuge Bamboo 9 with some C&D Wintertime Reserve “Alpine Lodge”, after that tasty selection, I loaded a round of K&K “Wintertime Reserve 2021”, another tasty tobak. Getting in the holiday spirit🎄
We're in a warmer weather pattern making morning chores a pleasure. Starting the day with GLP Abingdon in a bent MM Apple Diplomat along with a k-cup of Sumatra coffee.
Well, after my “normal” new Peterson “touch up”…..clean nasty black coating from bowl, make sure shank airway is cleared to 4mm, make sure tenon is chamfered, sandblast pipe gets a “Halcyon II” exterior wax/protector and buffed with a brush……Low and Behold, another new Limited Edition pipe with a bowl issue😖😖😖😖😡🤬. This time after I removed the “makeup concealer” I found a large void with three crack’s emanating upwards from it to the rim…Damn! Damn! Damn! Did I mention, I hate mimes, clowns, and heavy makeup of any kind? Peterson’s new bowl coating has been hiding plenty of ugly, scary, and just plain half-assed-ed-ness in more than just a few of my new Peterson’s. I would send it back, but there are no more like it to replace it. Sooooo….to be continued in “refinishing pipes” thread.
I have repaired the new Pete and have loaded it with my recent tobacco purchase that was delivered at the same time. It was loaded to the top with some Mac Barren’s “Royal Twist Deluxe Roll Cake” ‘2023’. It is smoking great, and the repair is holding fine. Bonus, no heat spot on the exterior, and lottery bonus, no burnout👍🏻. It looks like it never happened.
Went to historical Old St. Charles, MO this afternoon with the wife. The Lewis & Clark Pipe Club was also there meeting at Dengler's Tobacco B&M. I went to the shop and had a bowl with a few of the guys while the better half went shopping. A very enjoyable time by all. Afterwards, I purchased two oz. of Pirate's Chest and a new blend ( to me), Cameron's blend... I was made an honorary, not onery, member last year during the St. L Pipe Show, but their meetings are usually too far out in STL west county areas for me to attend...
After the first smoke…all is well. I’m pretty sure this pipe would have “burned out” on its inaugural bowl had I not repaired the divot. In my opinion, the original bowl coating which was actually pretty light compared to other new Pete’s I have, most likely, would have been useless. Peterson may have covered a pipe burnout under warranty, but I would not have been able to replace it with another Limited Edition of the same type and shape.
After a dinner of homemade meat sauce with spaghetti I loaded my Pete Short 03 with some Rattray’s “Exotic Orange” for this evening’s smoke. This tobacco is holiday-ish🙂

When you say, "slicing up everything", please don't include one of your fingers... 😏

Really like how that stem looks with that pipe... NICE...
I agree with @KA9FFJ that is a sweet looking pipe.
Now doing some Molte Dolce in my St. Nick meer...
Another beautiful pipe, Brother.
That’s a nice little-ish pipe, handy🙂👍🏻

I like Army Mount pipes. They are a lot easier to clean.
If that pipe is not already on my list... well, you know...🙂
Something different. I mean, it is the holidays after all.
