After “tweaking” the new Peterson…taper bore the stem, drill the shank airway to 4mm, remove the bowl coating with a warm damp paper towel, and wipe the interior with some “Adictivo” Tequila, just to try something different. I have it loaded with “Velvet” and smoking away. The pipe is a Peterson Special Natural Rusticated Silver Spigot House Pipe, quite a large billiard.
I have some of the Newminster 400 jarred up, it is a pleasant sweet smoke! Winding down a productive day with GH DVC in a Rob Roy and some hard cider. Rain expected tomorrow, it should be a good day to watch the Preakness.
I've only had two or three bowls so far and I find Repose to be a blend that I will buy more of. For an aromatic, this is not even closed to being goopy. The tin I opened is about right for how I like my tobacco for smoking. Where I have some aromatic blends that will clump together, Repose is drier and doesn't clump.
The first thing I smell is a good dark rum and the oriental tobacco with the grassy notes of the bright Virginias.
When I looked this up on tobacco reviews AFTER I ordered it, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. The only thing I can think is that the iteration of Repose is different than the version some of the reviewers smoked. An example is the blend is described as being a coarse cut with cubed cut burley. I don't find any cubed cut tobacco in my tin and its more of a ribbon cut.
Smoking it right out of the tin with no extra drying, it lights easy, doesn't bite when smoked slowly and the flavor/casing doesn't overwhelm the tobacco. The nutty flavor of the burley comes out more as you smoke it.
It sort of reminds me of Barbary Coast or Black Frigate. The Barbary Coast has a small amount of perique while the Black frigate contains latakia. Repose doesn't have either of those.
@Whoispra I don’t think it is even “high class”, comparatively. More like a tinned version….well, I guess tinned tobacco is arguably more high class than a pouch🤔
@Whoispra Is that how it works? If I ever get married, I’ll have the champagne flutes filled with beer. That’s about as classy as I get. I will use the big quart bottles of Oly though, I’m at least that classy😬. I wonder if I can even find the big bottles of Oly like my dad drank, I may have to go with big bottles of “Corona Familiar”…..now that would be classy, maybe even add a thin twist of lime. Probably why I’m not married🤔.
Has anyone else went to the Captain Black site? The “Classy Guy” cracks me up😂
@RockyMountainBriar; 7 Seas Gold is very tasty. @Whoispra; Sorry, I don't have a discriminating palate such as yourself and other Brothers on TPL. I just know what I like. I guess if I smoked a bowl of each, back to back, I might be able to compare tobacs. Beyond that, I'm not much help.
@Whoispra; After 60 years of pipe smoking, It is a skill I never even considered. I wish I could be more helpful to all my TPL Brothers, I guess it requires more thought and concentration than I care to utilize. In the end, everyone has different tastes.
It was really great to meet you both in person tonight @Whoispra and @AceFour at the most cool bar in town, Revival 1869. Here are a few pictures of our amazing time together!
An excellent time was had by all!!!! Thank you so much 😊
@Londy3 @Whoispra @AceFour Always enjoy seeing brothers getting together... Sunset Rum in a Fulushou. Liked this pipe so much was going to buy another one, but decided not to push my luck. This one performs perfectly, but I could have just been lucky. So I'm quitting while I'm ahead...
Londy3; @Whoispra; @AceFour; I envy you Brothers. I wish I could burn a bowl/s with another pipe smoker. That would be a great time. Problem is I don't know any other. It would be great to lie face to face rather than on line all the time.
@KA9FFJ; I felt the same way when I bought the Savinelli Cricket 127. One of my best smokers. So I bought another 20+ years ago, still haven't smoked it (NIB). I don't know, I know it will smoke great, but just can't spoil the mint state.
I'm traveling back to my younger days and choosing one pipe for a day and filling it multiple times from a leather pouch. Today I have an MM Pride and two pouches, a black one for GH Balkan Mixture and a brown one for GH DVC. I'm currently smoking DVC.

Yes it is. I bought 2 lbs. of it. Figured if the dollar went bust I could use it for wampum.
Between the banks and the government you might need more than 2 pounds of wampum!

Loaded up me "Comers". Beautiful day to set on the front deck and burn a bowl or two.
That 7 Seas Gold is pretty tasty stuff.
E.H. Taylor is my favorite of all 🥃

If you can’t laugh at yourself, who then🙂
I can't wait to try it. Should be here by Wednesday.

That is one sweet looking pipe, Brother.
