Well, time to break in a couple of unsmoked Estate Savinelli’s I have had for 6-8 years?? The bent is a 120 Anni Straight Grain (L) grade. The straight is a 2000 Straight Grain, also an (L) grade. Loading some MacBaren Golden Brown Burley London Blend from early 2021 into the Anni 120 bent.
The Savinelli's is smoking like a champ, of course it is, a ~26 year old pipe🙂. I love this tobacco by the way, tasty. It smells like sweet cocoa/chocolate in the jar. I have read that it is not suppose to be cased? There is no cocoa/chocolate in the smoke, just tasty tobacco.
Played 18 today, then took the wife out to eat and a little shopping. Now enjoying some Lane RLP-6 in a GBD Midnight on my screened in porch watching the sunset. Yep, retirement suits me just fine...😊
Loaded the Savinelli 2000 with some of that tasty MacBaren “Golden Brown Burley-London Blend” for the inaugural bowl in this one too 🙂. Felix is eyeballing.
@KA9FFJ; Retirement is sweeeeet. Thank God I have my bride of 57 years to share it with me. The granddaughters are close by and we can see them grow up (too fast). My life is far better than I deserve and I am grateful to be so blessed.
Out doing deliveries today, smoked a bowl of GLP Navigator and followed that up with a bowl of C&D Orient Express in a Peterson 303 system and a Stanwell # 15 respectively.
I loaded the CRF 2022 into the quintessential Virginia tobacco chamber/ratio Peterson pipe according to Mark Irwin (of the K&P book). This is my POY 2021 4AB. I’ve noticed that the new Peterson suede pipe socks seem to tarnish the Sterling Silver very evenly on my pipes that I store in them. It almost looks like black chrome. There must be some chemical in the green dye, or something used in the leather tanning process? I didn’t polish the silver, it looks kinda cool.
@RockyMountainBriar I have seen the same thing happen with silver jewelry in the shop. Leather pouches and sometimes felt lined jewelry boxes cause oxidation on the silver. Not sure what chemical is used in the dying/tanning that does this.
@opipeman Yep, retirement is great. I’m mostly retired and cut my client list down to two. I work five to six hours a week just so I can find my pipe and other hobbies.
Just popped open the tin of Carolina Red Flake, and I must say it is a nice smoke, but a bit on the mellow side for me. Not as tangy as past renditions, but a good smoke nonetheless. Hard to describe, but the flavor of the Virginias is sweet and mellow. Hope you all got a chance to try some of this.
@Zouave I have been meaning to ask about one of your earlier posts…..What does it mean to be “stuck in traffic”😬. We had a stagecoach with a broken wheel once, I just went around it through the barrow pit then across the “crick bottom”😬.
Smoking some Planta “Brazilian Mixture” in my handmade Liverpool. The “Brazilian Mixture” has a lime flavoring, but not as (wait for it @vtgrad2003) creamy as the Panama Jack’s “Key Lime”.
I just finished my first tin in fact...I think it's fantastic...you can certainly taste the quality. I do agree with you though, it's certainly mellower than previous batches, but then it also has the highest sugar content, so that may be it. But like you, I enjoy(ed) it immensely. In the end, you really have to be a true Virginiaphile to appreciate this batch (okay, okay, I'm simply waiting patiently for the perversions to start coming my way over that word )
Here is another one for you @vtgrad2003😬 I’m going to blend one tin of CRF 2022 (at least one, depending how it turns out) with some of my L.E. “Golden Triangle 100% St. James Perique” about 97% CRF to 3% Perique then press it back into a plug for a week or two, maybe more to let it marry. Hopefully it will come out of the press as “smoking ambrosia”.😋
I am smoking the one pipe ( Peterson 301 filled with Rattray's Red Rapparee) that I and didn't smoke while attending a drag race in Byron Illinois today..
Went with a pipe smoking buddy from the pipe club.

Looks like you are blessed as well.
