@ghostsofpompeii, Thanks so much! I have always admired how Maigurs turtle shape shows off the grain, similar to the blowfish shape. However, some of his turtles are longer and heavier than my preferences. When I found a turtle that only weighed 38 grams, I quickly jumped on it.
I started to post some pics on The Daily Briar Photoshoot, but traveling as much as I do, I don't have the means to set up the photos as professionally as some of you guys do. I will be glad to post that one over on The Daily Briar Photoshoot . The pics were taken by Bobby Nesbitt at Two Friends Pipes where I purchased the pipe.
Yeah, almost too hot to sit outside and smoke today. But I managed to smoke my Charatan canted Dublin, and an old Carey bent Volcano., both with Sutliff Vanilla Custard.
Got a bit cooler as the day wore on so I went back out and had another mid-afternoon bowl. This time I smoked Sutliff Pumpkin Spice in my Peterson Dracula pipe. Had a glass of Vernor's Ginger Ale. Strange combination - but refreshing.
@motie2 I have the feeling someone at the Scandinavian Tobacco Group has already acquired the recipes for the Dunhill blends and is in the process of making a perfect Match Blend with a similar name. Or who knows ... they might do a deal and get the rights to the name as well. The Dunhill blends have been around too long to be erased from extinction overnight. There has to be some backroom deals in the works. The blends are too popular for an entity like the Scandinavian Tobacco Group not to be somewhat interested in the future of Dunhill blends..
@ghostsofpompeii - They aren't being discontinued. They're just not going to be exported to the US any more. I have fairly reasonable supplies on hand.
@judandhispipe -- They way I read the announcement, the Dunhill blends are being discontinued altogether. Let's try to find out the truth (if such a concept even exists anymore.....)
Trust me Mr. Motie2, I've been trying to get that answered for some time now. I've been writing to try to get even get a little clue of what's upcoming and nobody has said anything meaningful. In the meantime I'm taking your advice and cramming the vault as best I can. Plus you know how some of those copycat blends, or whatever you call them, they are rarely ever quite the same.
If they are remade I would bet it would be just to capitalize on the value of name recognition. I suggest you begin marketing Motie Mixture 965 as soon as possible to fill the void in the market.
@Philip -- You jest, but @ghostsofpompeii should market Mrs. Hudson's. Sure, he's posted the recipe, but most of us are lazy and would rather someone else did all the work. I for one, would gladly pay $10.00 for 1.75 ounces (the weight of a Sutliff Private Stock full tin) plus shipping.
BTW, if any of y'all are aromatic fans, a word to the wise: Try it. (recipe upon request)
You've said that before Sir, and I like to show people respect. I see little kids calling adults by their first names and it just doesn't seem right. Not that I'm a little kid, I just don't like to take it upon myself to drop the title. But since you insist I will make an exception, Professor!
I know I'm going a little up the line of posts now (missed you by about three days) but I wanted to point out that it is my understanding that STG would not have to buy the rights at all to the Dunhill blends. I'm sure there are legal barriers between subsidiary companies but the Dunhill rights are owned by General Cigar which is in turned owned by STG. If they wanted to keep the line going they easily could, but is it worth it to them?
Just finished a bowl of India Trading Company "Royal Challenge". in my Bruyere Garantie hinged cap pipe. The one featured on today's Daily Briar Photoshoot. And I need to correct myself. I got well over 20 minutes out of the pipe. More like 45.
@ghostsofpompeii, Thanks, I am really enjoying this one. It is much easier to clean than a gourd calabash, but it still works the same way in taming full bodied blends by knocking them down a notch or two. I was surprised at how much smaller this pipe actually is, than it looks in the pics, but since it is briar, it still weighs about the same as a medium/small gourd calabash.

@motie2, Thanks so much! It really clenches well, and is more comfortable in the hand than I expected.
Thanks for giving me a legitimate reason to go check the mail, despite the heat and humidity. :^)
My take on " Old King Cole" in a Peterson Kildare.
Gawith and Hoggarth Black Irish X, in a Todd Johnson Calabash weighing in at 75 grams......
What I do love is frog mortons cellar. Easily my favorite tobacco so far.
