Nothing. It's too damn cold to sit outside in south Louisiana. Temperature is 37f but its the damn humidity and windchill that makes it feel like its 29f.
Actually finishing up some work and will then find a spot in the garage to sit and have a bowl or two.
@PappyJoe 37F in LA….that’s getting close to seeing alligators wearing ice skates😬. Now wouldn’t that be something to see🥶 You might even be able to use Copperheads for walking sticks, just don’t walk inside, they might thaw out.
@RockyMountainBriar The alligators just go into deeper water where it's warmer.
Seriously, around 1998 I did a story about a January fishing trip where it was so cold we had to keep defrosting the reels because the line kept freezing. We were fishing some deep holes in the back of some channels though and loaded up on redfish and speckled trout because the fish were on the deep bottom and hungry.
@Pappyjoe; I got the same issue, only it is 0 degree outside and the WC is -10. I have felt cold for days. I know my shed will be warmer because the sun is shining, but getting there and starting a fire just doesn't make me need a bowl or two all that bad. I guess I'm getting old.
@opipeman That reminds me of the three years I lived on Governors Island in New York harbor. Some people would park their vehicles along the seawall fence at night and the next morning the cars would be covered in thick ice. It was about a 30 minute walk from my apartment to my office and there were days I would get their and my beard would be covered in ice. It got worse after they made us go clean shaven.
I got colder in New York and New Jersey than I did in Antarctica.
@PappyJoe; I remember a couple of fires in the rural part of our Fire Protection District(52 sq. Miles), when I was new to the department. The temperature well below zero and the wind chill in double digits. Responding was bad enough, but after fighting the fire and getting sweaty and wet, that ride back to the station on the tailboard of the engine would freeze you to the bone. That alone would motivate you to want to become an officer(they rode in the cab). As bad as that was, I think when you are young it was easier to tolerate. I sure couldn't do it today.
Getting ready for Online Game WoT “Tank Night” with a good friend. Loaded my Rattray’s Chubby Jackey Natural with Horn ferrule and Smooth Goblin 100 with…..you guessed it C&D “Espresso”🙂 I added a pinch of Newminster Black Cherry to the Goblin to top it off.
No pipe for me the last 3 days. Those days started out at 12°, 8° and 9°. I guess having my grandkids the last 3 days was perfectly timed. Might have a bowl tomorrow... 🤞 Although I did take the evenings to totally revamp and reorganize my pipe working area. I took a pic because it may never look that neat again:
38 here today. Got another 2" of snow last night--the last batch of about 5" had already melted. Fortunately, our pinhead governor put the national guard on duty, so we should all survive this 2" of snow perfectly fine (he actually declared a state of emergency for it a couple of days ago). I hate snow.
Smoking Virginia #1 right now in a Sav...just trying to kill off what I have to make it go away...I'm not very fond of it, but it's tolerable.
@KA9FFJ - That work area is far too clean! Hope it means we'll be following some new restorations.
@vtgrad2003 - Virginia No. 1 was the first tinned tobacco I bought, it was recommended by one of my high school teachers. I wasn't a fan but I tried some other tins, then onto bulk and I finally settled on one that I smoked on and off for too many years.
Warmed up to 42°, so before the deep freeze hits again, I'm doing some Lane Butter Rum in a reworked JOST A-1 bent. Jost... a lot of history can be found about that little St. Louis based pipe shop that has long since become extinct. Google it and you'll find some interesting facts and nostalgia... My wife bought a pipe there for me back in 1971... still have it (a Knute freehand)...

Sounds like you need to put your "big boy panties" on and get outside and smoke one

Bite me.
I've been in colder places for longer time periods.

Yep. Getting old sucks.
Happy Birthday, I hope you had a great Birthday, Brother! I'll be 78 in March, I don't even remember 69.
Happy Birthday!
Sir Walter Raleigh in a Peterson Spigot. It’s 0 here. Thank god for my garage.
I truly wish you many more with good friends, good family, good fortune, and good health... 🎊🎈🎉

I have one word for that pic:
