Smoking my Eric Stokkebye Poker loaded with some “Johnny’s Melange No.2”…this melange is a mix of various Va/Per’s, and Virginia Flake’s. I was finishing up the refurb on the old WDC Milano “Hesson Guard”.
Smoking the WDC Canadian I refinished yesterday. It’s loaded with a 50/50 mix of Sillem’s “Green” and C&D’s “Espresso”. The cold draw still had a slight, funky old ghost in it. The Sillem’s seems to be taking over the show, I’m getting hazelnut and a funky old ghost, not a favorite of mine….ahh, there’s the C&D👍🏻 I might have to load it with some “Devil’s Holiday” to purge the moldy old ghost.
Smoking some Planta Anno 2015 “Brazilian Mixture” in a Lane “Crown Achievement” Dublin-Lumberman?, Oval Shank Dublin?, Oval Shank Saddle Billiard? Whatever it is I love the shape and stockiness of this pipe.
Opened a 100g tin of Dan Tobacco Christmas Tobacco I bought in May. First bowl was pretty good with a nice fruit and rum flavor. Interesting tin art too.
Shame you can’t find some Alder. I was at a small station on the coast of Washington State that just happened to be on a tribal reservation. We were friendly with the tribe and they would occasionally bring us some fresh smoked salmon or razor clams. They only used Alder.
We had an occasional problem with bears tearing up our trash shed. We would call the tribal police and a few days later they would Broussard a pot of bear stew.
@motie2 Ok, I was a bit curious, Aspen is a softwood. I was wondering how that was going to turn out. I’m thinking it might have been 😖……or something really special.
’Twas delicious, maybe a little less moist than I’d hoped. The alderwood leaves a more delicate flavor than hickory and mesquite, but more pronounced than applewood. Cedar chips most often Impart the flavor I prefer, and yes, I’ve tried planking, but the alder is interesting…. and different.
@motie2 I’ve smoked cheddar cheese and trout with alder. I’m not a fan of the alder, not a fan of applewood either…too sweet. I usually use hickory and/or mesquite. Hmm, cedar chips? that is another softwood with lots of resins I would expect it to provide a very sharp smoke. I have seen and smelled cedar planked salmon and trout, never tried it though. It didn’t seem that smoky when “planked” though.
Smoking some C&D “Old Grove” in an older Savinelli Dry 3613 tonight. This tobacco has pomegranate as a topping, very interesting and a pretty nice smoke. I bought this tobacco when the “Celler Series” came out a few years ago. It’s quite tasty and unique. I might have to get some more if they still make it. I gotta go look, wish me luck🤞🏼
I’m getting a little ghost of tobacco’s past. It’s the first smoke since I refurbished it several years ago. I think maybe an “old codger” pouch blend, Velvet, SWR, Half&Half? One of these days I’m going to be able to discern which one. P.S. I don’t especially like this big open “dry system” bit hole, it’s in a weird spot, kinda far back. It is smoking well though👌🏻 This tobacco is a bit spicy and has a little more vitamin-N than expected, it must be the burley and Perique that are hiding behind the black cavendish and pomegranate.

Awe, come on man. You need a bigger pipe 😁
It's getting cold enough to smoke a brisket into pastrami on the stovetop smoker! How did the salmon taste?
Still smokin'......
You're always welcome to come to my house and do some "errands and chores"
I’ll let you know after dinner. First time using aspen, instead of cedar, mesquite, applewood, or hickory.
Ok, further proof I’m getting senile:
I meant alderwood.

Let me know how the smoked chicken smokes!
Maiden voyage for the new Peterson with none other than Peterson Flake!

My bad, yes, I was responding to @pipeman83 's post...someone needs to change their screenname to 'pipewoman' so this mistake doesn't happen again

I have no clue what you guys are talking about. I must have been smoking a pipe when it started.
