Rattray's Exotic Orange in one of my Rinaldo Triad Titania. I was digging around and found a jar from 2018 which is before the name change from Exotic Orange to Exotic Passion.
Londy3 I am not very good at describing tobaccos, but It has a light sweetness and some people say a nutty flavor. Sometimes I get a very light chocolaty/nutty taste. This is coming from someone who only smokes aromatics and Virginia's.
A little day before celebration (56 years on July 3). How she has stuck it out is a miracle. I guess you have to be exceptional to be the wife of a firefighter. Amphora Full Aroma in a re-stemmed Peterson's "Kildare".
Picking up the son and his wife at the STL airport. On the way here and while waiting for their flight, I'm doing some Frankenblend in a Mr. Brog Maestro #81...
@motie2, you were right, What I meant to say was Sutliff Black Vanilla , not Sutliff VBC. Anyway had Boswell Pennsylvania Dutch Treat and some Russ Fudge Cake so far.
Getting ready for some online WOT this evening. Loaded my Musico Dublin with some Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. “American Delight”. I just received the vintage Phil-O-Matic and decided to fill it and try it out. It’s kind of a pain in the ass, but it seemed to work. It looks like it would keep the tobacco at your preferred moisture level, at least for a day or two…maybe. I can understand why they are not made anymore…barring the fact that pipe smoking has dwindled markedly from it’s heyday, the pouch would just end up being a hassle. Easier to just load from a tobacco pouch, wallet, bag, tin, Baccyflap, whatever. Interesting piece of tobacciana though.
@Londy3 Yes, I just ordered to tubs, it has just a little more sweetness than Carter Hall. I really enjoy it also. In fact it and Carter Hall are my two favorites at this time.
Relaxing on my screened in back porch while doing some Sutliff County Cork in a reworked Dr. Grabow... I call it my "half-and-half" pipe for obvious reasons...😏
Out on the patio tonight smoking some G,H & Co. “Dark Birds Eye” in a little Kings Cross Featherweigt 303 (Savinelli). Yes that is how featherweight is spelled on these pipes, maybe they ran out of room on the little shanks to stamp them🤔. Since this is my first smoke of the “Dark Birds Eye”, I am starting out with this little guy just in case the vitamin-N is as high as some reviews say. I was gifted this pipe with another estate pipe I had purchased on EBay. The tenon had been broken off. I cut a long replacement combo tenon/stem on the lathe to bring the stem back to full length and then added the briar spacer and glued it all together. The original length of the stem is the same, but it has the briar insert instead of being all vulcanite. Personally, I like the look, it looks somewhat like a mini version of a Savinelli QANDALE.
Interesting Tidbit: Which, in case you didn’t know, the QANDALE pipes were originally stamped Gandalf, but Savinelli got “talked to” by some lawyers from the Tolkien (estate?) and had to cease and desist. Some of the Gandalf pipes did make it out, but most were over-stamped Q for the G and E for the F…sneaky. In later runs they were just stamped QANDALE to start with. Wierd, the picture of me smoking the pipe looks like it was photoshopped, it wasn’t, but it looks like it. I guess the iPad camera focused on the pipe bowl🤔 Nice smoke by the way, no brutal nic hit either. Next time me thinks I go for a larger pipe😉
Hmm, thought someone might be sneaking up on me from the alley, my camera tripped the floodlights😳 He was only about 20-30 feet from me, I was just around the corner on the left. I have since went in and got my 9mm. Sketchy people walk through my alley and even my yard sometimes. https://ring.com/share/329fc29d-b574-4a0a-b192-d82e8d6b07ab
I hope he comes back later to eat some more weeds, I hate getting out the weed-eater😬 By the way, the bang was from fireworks celebrations in the neighborhood, not a gunshot.
Decided to pull out some of my "older" tobacco after jarring some of my recent purchase. Smoked some Exotic Orange from 2015 (from before it was renamed Exotic Passion). I think it is even better than the newer blend either because of mellowing out some or because of the difference in tobacco used in manufacturing.
Followed that with a bowl of Rattray's Bagpiper's Dream jarred in 2017. It paired well with an Old Fashioned made with Copper Pony Rye.
@PappyJoe Rattray's Bagpiper's Dream sounds like a perfect fit for @thebadgerpiper, especially since he's taken up the bagpipes... But seriously, how do you rate that blend?
@KA9FFJ I would probably give it 4 stars. This was probably the fourth or fifth 100g tin I had bought. Even though it's flavored with cognac, I've always thought it made a good pairing with whiskeys or whisky. I didn't stop smoking it because it was bad or anything, I just got away from it by exploring other blends.
I am up visiting my sister and then on to my niece's place for fireworks. Mostly been smoking this test blend that turned out pretty good. Met another piper at a party and gave him a bag of Dix.
@AceFour Man, you really like getting your Dix out there🙂 I hate to say it, but I would give a free bag of Dix a try….as long as we’re still talking tobacco. I wouldn’t want a bag of any other kind.
EITC Officers Club in a Bones Quarter Bend briar pipe with our "outside cat" (he adopted us) on my front porch as the sun was rising.......pleasant experience

I have two jars of the Exotic Passion also. From 2019 and 2020.
Yes, sir. But just because I’m on a diet doesn’t mean I can’t look at (lust after) the menu…..

Thanks for the feedback. I just may have to try it.
You ever had half n half?

It is good to remember the old way and the old times. Glad to see your post! Keep on living the traditional ways.

Now, I've rediscovered it.
