Relaxing during a light shower with some Lane 1Q in meer Zouave. I must say, this is probably one of the most "regal-looking" pipes in my humble collection.
A little while ago I had a bowl of Lane Black Raspberry in a Savinelli Solaria Bryer pipe. This tobacco was smoked only once previously back in 2017 at which time I rated in 9.5/10. Well it has aged wonderfully and holds at least the initial 9.5 personal score. Very, very easy to smoke, lasted about an hour on three lights. Sitting in the cooler weather under a deck umbrella on a perfectly beautiful day was a gift from heaven.
Outside in ~73F with a very slight breeze smoking some Vauen “Black Pepper” in another old LHS. I think this CERTIFIED PUREX Squat Bulldog/Bullcap? #96 is newer than the last LHS, but still sometime before the 60’s.
VBC and Bold Rum so far today.@ motie2, Sorry I took so long to answer your question, the Bold Rum I would rate on par with Sunset Rum, still no comparison tho BP.
Experiment time. Doing a second bowl in the same briar back to back. This time some Tinderbox Black Russian on my screened in back porch... I'll know more when I reach the end of this bowl...
A little before evening chow I had a bowl of Sutliff Peach Cobler in one of my Medico Varsity briar pipes........VERY good. A sweet smoke but not even close to being "over the top". A very distinct and noticible peach taste. I cannot comment on the aroma as I was on an outside deck area.
Going for a short smoke this evening with some Drew Estate “Grand Central” in this little Vector Rhodesian Mini-Churchwarden. I think it is a weird pipe now and would not buy one again. I wanted a grey one, but they were all out🙁. I should have just passed on this one. It is one of the first ten or so pipes I bought new. When I was a “newbie newb”, it always smoked wet as hell. I have not taken it for a spin in years. Tasty tobacco with a nice room note. The pipe is still smoking wet. I did go straight out of the tin, but the tobacco was not overly moist. With the “clear-ish” stem, I can see the moisture building😖 I think the outside bowl finish just doesn’t let the briar breath at all. I surmise it is the type of paint finish that is water dipped and probably sealed with a clear on top of that? I might need to chamfer the tenon?
John Bull in a Medico "Varsity" Briar, a GREAT smoke that I have now adopted onto my regular tobacco rotation. After having smoked that, I started wondering what would happen if I introduced a "sweeter" component. So back into my office where I mixed another "frankenblend" by adding apoximately 50% portion of Black Vanilla Cavendish to 50% of the John Bull. I smoked it in a Savinelli Briar "Solari". Surprisingly it did not wow me at all. In fact this concoction actually caused a slight amount of tongue and mouth bite. I still want to try some blend to introduce a slightly sweet note when blended with the John Bull. I will keep trying for the answer to my search. If I do not find a component that satifies me, the John Bull "straight up" will actually do just fine.
Enjoying some Captain Black classic in my new Meerschaum churchwarden. It is a surprisingly good smoke and there is enough stem to keep my hand off the bowl.
Going to give this old Regis? “Windy Perpetual Dry Smoker” a try. Quite the title. Anyway, smoking some SG “Grousemoor”. I’m trying to figure out just how to smoke this thing. I’m pretty sure it is meant to be smoked with the rounded wind-cap down and the flat cap up...maybe? At least, that is the way the shank is stamped. I’ve loaded it and positioned the tobacco at each end at different times to see which way works best. So far, it seems to work best with the tobacco load bottomed out on the flat cap end, but it does not like to be smoked with the round wind-cap side down? It may be that my tobacco was more wet than I thought? So...smoke “normally” but it has the option to load fresh tobacco from the flat cap/stem side? The thing that does suck....when turned wind-cap down after being smoked, the ash falls out the holes and gets all over everything. I didn’t think this tobacco was all that moist, but it does not want to stay lit, maybe it needed some dry time? It is, after all, a SG tobacco. It is smoking dry though.👍🏻 I wish I could find some original instructions on how to smoke this thing? Man, I have ash everywhere, I’m glad I’m not wearing a white shirt. I think maybe it needs to have a firm pack, maybe like an “air-pocket“ load, or maybe two tampers? Tamper on wind-cap side, finger on flat-cap side? This thing is kicking my ass😕

@mapletop, I'm working through some Omega that I got along with Tashkent and English 110!
I'll know more when I reach the end of this bowl...
That pipe is a beauty!
That pipe had been beaten half to death, so I rusticated portions of it to make it more esthetically appealing IMHO...
”Dunghill?”
Freudian slip? Or tobacconist bias? <giggle>
