It's not the looonnnng-stemmed Wellington I'd like to eventually get, but I couldn't resist this one on eB. Couldn't resist the carving pattern and the darker yellow stem. It's a little over 5-1/2" long.
@AnantaAndroscoggin Had a straight-stemmed non military mount with the same bowl design. The stem was also yellow. The stummel was varnished so I stripped it. I then restained it a medium brown. However, the " football" shaped areas I stained in a dark muted green with a small artist brush. I must say, IMHO, I really liked how it turned out...
@motie2 It should be dead on straight. The mortise is drilled first, then the airway is drilled just so the drill does not touch or barely touches the inside chamfer of the mortise depending on how thick the mortise walls are. The tobacco chamber can be drilled very first or very last depending? I would say last is most forgiving of mistakes. I have drilled all of my airways first, then I drill the tobacco chamber carefully down to the airway bottom. Here is a quick, crappy, sketch.
