@motie2 ~ Surprisingly, that's a briar pipe. It reminds me of my grade school days when we would melt chunks of crayon pieces to make multi colored blocks to color with. Waste not, want not. Sadly, it's waaaaaay out of my price range.
@motie2 Cool bit of history there. The only way to keep from repeating mistakes is to remember history and endeavor to make sure they do not happen again.
@thebadgerpiper My guess is Hitler thought it more expedient to keep the troops morale up that were fighting for him, than to adhere to his principles ... Just a guess... 🤔
Hitler may not have liked smoking...or meat, but he sure wasn’t afraid to have his “doctors” provide Pervitin (methamphetamine) for his troops in their ration kits.
This stunning Maki-e tobacco pipe from Dunhill and Namiki is unused. It was decorated entirely by hand by the late Grand-Master Kyusai Yoshida and less than 10 were believed to have been created, with even fewer unused. This is the same artist that created the extremely popular and highly sought over Dunhill-Namiki sold-out limited editions: the Hannya, Sakura Rose and Motorities .Unfortunately there is a crack on the box, damages can be seen in the photographs. If you have any questions please contact us!
Story
Alfred Dunhill in a combined effort with Namiki released this limited edition design from its archives in 1999. Each pipe is hand crafted and decorated by a master Maki-e artist, requiring eight months to complete and involving over 150 individual processes. An integral part of Japanese heritage, the craft of Maki-e lacquering was first perfected over 1,500 years ago. Urushi, which is sap from a Japanese lacquer tree, is first used to draw patterns on the surface of the pipe bowl. Powdered gold, silver, and colored pigments are then applied to the Urushi while it is wet.The pipe features a Rakucho in flight, which is an ancient and mythical phoenix-like bird of uncertain origin. In Oriental philosophy, it symbolizes a peaceful atmosphere in harmony with the universal life-spirit.The signed pipes are fitted with an 18kt gold engraved band, and are packaged in a lockable lacquered wooden presentation box.

One of my bosses/co-worker/friend (I knew him for close to 30 years) use to tell me if he won the lottery he would give me a quarter of it......Then produce two bits from his pocket and ask if I wanted it now? Ha Ha.... After several years of hearing the joke I took him up on the offer of the quarter one day and said “sure I’ll take it now”. He put the quarter back in his pocket and he never asked me again if I wanted “A quarter of it”.
Not a pipe, but I thought I would throw this up here for @thebadgerpiper (not that he needs a cane). I found it on EBay in “walking canes”...I think it ends today? I think this little badger has had some use.

What do you think that third one is made of? (ending sentence with preposition -10pts.)

#3 is probably briar that has been paint film water dipped. My guess is that the briar was either flawed or devoid of grain.
Thanks. I understand the process you describe.... I had not thought of that.
Who’s?😂🤣😂

I could leave that pipe on the coffee table as a piece of art work and/or a conversation piece...🙂
