  • I had to drive in to town for a meeting this afternoon and ran by Mayan Imports where we do our pipe club meetings. I had planned to just have a cigar, but then I found a blend I don't remember seeing before, Wessex Campaign - a dark Virginia flake.  I decided to try a tin. I opened it and found it to be very long dark brown flakes that were bent in half to fit inside the tin. It is extremely wet also. It is so wet it makes a piece of wood floating in the swamp look dry. May have to let it dry a day or two before smoking.

  • I just feel victim to multiple emails announcing Limit Edition Pipe Tobacco from Kopp that are now available in the United States.
Four - yes, Four - different on line retailers sent me email announcing the availability of Kopp 1919 Flame (2024), Kopp Small Batch Stormy North and Kopp Small Batch Stormy South.

  • @PappyJoe
They look to be reasonably priced at least.

    K&K blends available at cupojoes.com

  • Another tin of Balkan Sasieni, the only English blend I smoke. My aromatic roster currently includes jars of Cult BRM, Sutliff Blue Danube and Barbados Plantation, and one of a Frankenblend (Best of the Rest?).”

The Blue Danube is an interesting burley-forward alternative to the Barbados Plantation.

@PappyJoe I got the same emails, yet every online shop I went to had sold out by the time I checked my email! You snooze, you lose is always true when you’re a Night Shift employee!
  • Having seen the letter about discontinued blends in a FB group, I promptly ordered a pound of Sutliff Virginia Slices.
  • RondyR, I find myself being just the opposite. I just moved from the virginia blends to the English, Balkan, Turk, Oriental blends side of things for the winter and  colder time of season. These blends just seem to be a little heavier in reference to taste and smoking flavor which I appreciate during this time of year as stated. Some burley blends will also come into play from time time, I also fine myself reaching for my "power" :-)  pipes when smoking these blends such my "Brebbia"  MPB NAIF which smokes these type blends very well. Happy New Year and stay warm.
  • Seriously, I didn't make this purchase because I'm afraid of what I'm going to miss when Sutliff made tobaccos are no longer available.
    I have just received:
    Gurkha Retribution 1.75 oz. tin
Gurkha Urban Legend, 1.75 oz. tin
Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding Special Reserve 4 oz.
Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel Aged 2 oz.
Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel Aged 2 oz.

And, yes, SPC Plum Pudding is one of my favorites. I now have 12 ounces unopened and about 3 ounces in an open tin.

  • C&D Fire Bird Flake
  • Latest order finally arrived. From the left: Sweet Peach, Purple Cow, Warped:Saint Espresso, Toscano Maestro Puccini, Jamaican Flake.
  • I just recently ordered a couple pounds of MB Goden Extra and a couple pounds of MB Black Ambrosia . Wanted to snag some Sutliff bulk but what i wanted is gone already . Ill look around a bit more

Wessex , Peter Heinrich and Dan are my favorite European manufacturers . Every manufacturer has  good stuff because no one is trying to make a s*** blend . Its a matter of their flavor approach , some are better to my taste than others ... but Wessex , Dan and Heinrich just Rock . Some of those are probably produced by K&K

Whats funny is that Ive taken all my tins , tubs and lb bags and tossed them in a closet . This last year I generally smoke my bulk go to blends and dabble with a tin here and there . So my " cellar " is jarred go to stuff and whatever vintage stuff I have jarred . I treat myself to something vintage a couple times a month or so

  • I really enjoy the "Wessex" blends and currently engaging the Wessex (Red Virginia Flake). I am a fan therefore I have nothing negative to say about their product up to this point after years of enjoyment. I have come to the conclusion that I am done with "running around". I have reached the pipe smoking age of "no more of that stuff". As stated I'm rolling with Wessex, Boswell, Seattle pipe club, and L.J. Peretti for now. Remember, smoke what you like and like what you smoke and take some time to contemplate. Stay warm and be safe out there. :-)

@KABUL07 ... Agreed . Wessex have excellent blends .. period . All their Virginias are perfect snapshots of what they represent . Of their Virginias , I prefer the Red , its a miracle . Their Burley Slice is my drop dead favorite Burley behind the now long gone Edgeworth Slices

I haven't tried Voodoo Queen . I probably got around to trying half or more of whatever Sutliff had and never got to that one  I see smokingpipes has it in stock .. but damn it , Id hate to order it , love it , and then its gone forever

@PappyJoe ... That American blend is pretty good ! You ever try their top black cherry , or whatever they are calling it now ? Its super exceptional
  • KABUL07KABUL07 Master
PappyJoe, when you state "that American blend is pretty good" are you referring to the "Voodoo Queen" blend ? Thanks.

    @KABUL07

    Old Post:

<< Here for your edification is @ocpunk714's review of Sutliff Voodoo Queen, a Burley, Latakia, Perique, and Virginia blend. He couldn't post it and asked me to do it. This seemed a reasonable place to put it...... You can also find reviews of Voodoo Queen at:

Tnx for the info guys. I've been looking for a few different Virginia based blends to buy, and you guys have touched on a few I may wind up trying.
Always appreciate blend reviews and opinions...
