Those pipes look like they have a really small bore….unless the pipes are massive? Probably catering to weed-hoppers? I’m surprised they aren’t equipped with carburetors.
I generally like that pipe, not a big fan of sandblast, but some pipes look great sandblasted. This one is ok. It does remind me of a clam in profile…..and it looks like it’s sucking on the other end of the stem🙂
My small pipe collection (make and new or estate given). Starting at the upper left and going down. Wally frank straight pot (estate), Wally frank petite rhodesian (estate-new), No name basket briar (bought new, straight billiard/brandy), Comoy tradition (estate-possible replaced stem), Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman (new), Nording Compass (new), Weber straight billiard (estate), Dr. Grabow Golden Duke Bent bulldog (estate), Dr. Grabow Silver Duke Billiard (estate), Dr. Grabow Westbrook lovat (estate), Dr. Grabow Sculptura Pickaxe (estate)
@Whoispra You need 3 more, one each day for 2 weeks. Of course if you want to be like @RockyMountainBriar (and who doesn't), you'll eventually wind up with one pipe per day for 2 YEARS! 😏
@Whoispra@KA9FFJ@opipeman my aspiration is to have one pipe for each year I'm alive. I figure once I'm up to speed, I'll only need to buy one new pipe each new year...this is all in theory mind you.
I’ve never paid more than $20.00 for a pipe. My first EA Carey was $15.00 in 1968. More recent eBay purchases were made before 2020 when prices exploded.
@motie2 I don’t hate that pipe, but I’m not sure I like it either🤔
That piece of briar must have had a/some hellacious pit/pit’s that the sandblasting couldn’t hide😳
I will say, I think it would have been cooler if the carver did not go as far overboard with the “termite” holes, a few, maybe a half dozen should have been sufficient……unless it really was a very nastily pitted piece of briar.
@motie2 I’ll have to “sort-of” disagree with the, “I’ve never paid more than $20 for a pipe” comment. In 1968 money, you paid $15.00, adjusted for US inflation, you paid $135.15 in todays money for that “$15.00” pipe. Sooo, you can buy a $180.00 pipe today and still stay under your $20.00 1968 era limit.
@RockyMountainBriar; I like the way you reason, But like @motie2, my Bride's response would be Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha………….
There are things wrong with some EA Carey pipes: mostly stem issues, but most smoke like no other pipes. Back in the Sixties, I had other pipes - GBD, CHARATAN, SASIENI, KAYWOODIE, etc. - along with my first two Careys, but I passed them on along the way. When I started smoking pipes again in 2017, I had only the two Careys…. And eBay. Currently I have only the fourteen Careys and two cobs.
Going back to the price inflation statements: I'll see your ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, etc., and raise you the "stink eye"...
Of couurse not. But I have never smoked it. Nor does it have a place in my collection. It has a prominent place in what SWMBO and I call the memory shelf; bits and pieces that have had some significance in our lives….. stones, boxes, small driftwood pieces, a fountain pen, pocket watch, a silver dollar, a spatula, and other things. Much of it would be junk to others…. But a couple of items are more precious. The Charatan sits with my father of blessed memory’s Indian head Marxman pipe.
And, full disclosure, I still have the Duncan Hill Aerosphere; the other pipe Carey offerred back in the day. I don’t smoke it, either. But it does have a place in my pipe rack.
@RockyMountainBriar Yes, that’s the pipe! That was somewhen in 2018. I remember being gifted with the Charatan, but no memory of what happened to it. Nothing. Crickets…. Age? Surgeries? Dunno.
I do recognize holes in my mind about books of the Bible, history (mostly dates), and Talmud, but this episode really bothers me.
Fortunately, we were married on my birthday, so Iwon’t forget an anniversary; at least, until the Alzheimer’s kicks in. (My father,of blessed memory, had it….)

Those are some skinny tobacco chambers. Then I read the description and they are basically cheroot holders.

@KA9FFJ is right. We are all doomed.
We’ll see how that works out for you😬…..Me, I have very little restraint🤪
I might have to become an enabler🤔
That is so far out of my price range, but I really like it. Ahhh..... to be wealthy and young again, for that matter.

Oh, thank you for that. I’ll share your calculations with SWMBO. I really think she’ll go for it.

I'm dying to know what your opinion of the Termite Pipe above is. Ignoring the price and just looking at the visual appearance.
I salute you for finding the pipe brand you like and sticking with them.
I'll see your ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, etc.,

Did you pass that nice, black, Charatan’s Make that you received from XDutchX along?
This is the awesome Charatan pipe you posted the pic of back in Oct. 2017🙂
Take heart my Brother, There are a number of things I can't account for anymore.
I, on the other hand, still have the CAO meerschaum XDutchX gifted me and smoke it two or three times a month. (Not a recent photo)
