Just from what little I gathered, whatever Congress passes in the way of trying to control more of our lives, it will NOT pass the Senate. One can only hope...
Most likely the only reason it might not pass the senate is “partisan politics” as we know, currently the House majority are democrats, where the Senate majority is still republican. If the Senate flips majority at some time, we can almost guarantee legislation like this and it’s ilk will probably pass. What our current or future President will do as far as a veto or pass signature is up for grabs with Trump, and probably a passed, done deal, with a democrat or “democratic socialist” in the hot seat. Interestingly, according to the articles, a few liberals are worried more about “racial profiling” than infringing on an actual “choice to smoke” question.

Making guns the cause of murderous rampages rather than laying the responsibility on the psychotic perpetrators of these heinous deeds, making “flavored” nicotine products responsible for a child’s bad choices than say the responsibility of their parents to educate and discipline them in steering them away from such things, and even limiting the size of sugary sodas or portions of food because some people do not have the self restraint to limit themselves are all SAD EXCUSES for people to say “It’s not my fault OR responsibility to control my own actions. Blame my bad choices on somebody else and make them pay for it”.
No offense intended to anyone, just making a point as I see it.
<< H.R. 2339 was passed by the House on February 27th. H.R. 2339 is a partisan bill that proposes to ban internet sales of all tobacco products along with the sale of "flavored" tobacco products including pipe tobacco among other anti-tobacco provisions.
The bill goes to the Senate next where, hopefully, it will be buried or will fail to pass. Please continue to contact your Congressional senators and let them know you oppose this legislation. We'll keep you updated on its progress.
In the meantime, however, it wouldn't hurt to stock up on all of your favorite blends...especially if you don't have a B&M pipe shop near you.>>
@motie2 That Pennsylvania news is pretty bleak. Wonder how long before they ban outdoor barbecues - and people using wood burning fireplaces in their homes.
When reading information like this I'm often reminded of Captain Nemo's line from the 1961 Jules Verne movie "Mysterious Island" ... "Contact with my species has always disappointed me."
They already are, and have been for a long time, but from state-to-state. They steal from warehouses of cigarettes and sell them elsewhere without all that tax stuff going on. I think there's a recent article about a tobacco-bust by police still near the front page of The Briar Report website.
@motie2 Another reason to hate California. Problem is every other State eventually follows California's lead. This bill would put an end to all aromatic tobacco blends. The only thing I smoke. Every morning it seems like I'm waking up in a new Country. I guess the only good thing about living in this new Country is without Police we'll be able to buy any flavored tobacco we want because there will be no one to enforce the laws anyway.
I was just reading that the lovely state of New York is now outlawing the ability to have tobacco products mailed to a residential address?!? Guess I'll be talking to my boss about the deliveries he will soon be getting addressed to a certain employee.
@Zouave Sure hope this doesn't affect pipe smokers in New York who purchased a Matches 860 Special Edition Friday Savinelli Pipe from The Pipe Nook. How will the post office determine if there is tobacco or a pipe in the package?
@ghostsofpompeii I hope this isn't the case. I pretty much only order my tobacco online. Anytime I try to grab some tins from the local B&M it's always a crap shoot. You never know if your going to get a tin of well seasoned fire wood or not. Things tend to sit on the shelves for God knows how long.
@motie2 Now if we can get them to remove those warning labels from pipe tobacco tins I might be able to add a few new tins to my collection. As it currently stands I simply toss the empty tins of tobacco with a warning label that takes up 1/3 of the artwork.
@Zouave The ONLY reason I can think of, is the possibility of a good sized populous on capital hill that enjoys a good cigar from time to time. I remember that President Clinton did... 😏
