On Aug. 24, 2020, the California Assembly approved a ban on the retail sale of flavored tobacco products within the state. The ban would include candy and fruit-flavored e-cigarette and vapor products and menthol cigarettes, but is expected to exempt hookah, premium cigars and pipe tobacco products. Read more about the bill, the response to possible exemptions and what its supporters and dissenters are saying.
The FDA will publish a list of deemed tobacco products that were on the market by or before Aug. 8, 2016 as well as a list of new tobacco products that are subject to the Sept. 9, 2020 deadline for PMTA applications. The exact date that these lists will be available for public viewing is unknown and the FDA is advising retailers refer to the press releases issued by various manufacturers announcing the submission of PMTA or SE applications.
Not spacificaly FDA related, but a byproduct of the trend. I went I to my local Walgreens to grab some Capt. Black and it was gone. All gone, no tobacco, no cigarettes, no backwoods, no Capt Black, no lighters, not even pipe cleaners. I asked what happened and they said "it was time" they didn't feel like they could be a drug store and still sell tobacco products.
@Zouave Exactly what CVS did a year or two ago....their "Admirals Choice" store brand tobacco was picked up by Pipes & Cigars. It was/is probably just STG Captain Black tobaccos with a different name?
@Zouave Could be just a regional thing. The Walgreen's I go to still has some tobacco products behind the counter. The other major drug store chain - CVS - got rid of tobacco product a couple of years ago but just increased the alcohol/beer/wine and candy section.
@PappyJoe; My Walgreens did the same thing. No pipe cleaners, lighter flints, lighter fluid, or tobac. Still sell alcohol. Lots of candy for the children.
It's really more of an inconvenience than anything else. It was easy to just run down the street and grab some cheep tobacco and pipe cleaners or butane or zippo flints ect.
@Zouave Fortunately I don't have to rely on the drugstores for pipe cleaners etc. We have a lot of gas stations and tobacco stores that carry butane, Zippo's and pipe cleaner. I wouldn't buy any of their glass pipes but they do usually carry the big bags of roll your own tobaccos posing as pipe tobacco.
@PappyJoe; Stock up on Tobac & Ammo if you can find it. We all think 2020 has been bad, grab your A** with both hands. I'm not one to be negative as a rule, but this is going to be bad.
Rough guess: I have enough pipe tobacco to last at least 3 to 4 years. I guess I'd better double that. As far as firearms and ammunition... no problems at all there. But then, I've always had that Boy Scout motto mentality... "BE PREPARED" 😉😁 Don't get the wrong impression, I'm not a "bunker in my back yard" kind of guy, but I can help myself and others (limited) for quite a while...
This Covid quarantine has pretty much prepared us for what is to come ... a 'bunker in place' mentality for the next six months to a year.
Never thought I'd be spending my remaining Golden Years in virtual isolation - afraid to come in contact with a fellow human being for fear of contracting terminal cooties. Or at least that's the message that's been pounded into our heads. NO PHYSICAL CONTACT!
On the plus side in these nine months of isolation I've become acclimated to this new normal. And fully expect new Government restriction to be forthcoming as well just to keep us in a continuing state of imbalance and compliance. To quote THE BORG ... "Resistance is futile".

Uh.......ouch.
