King Street Emporium sells many fine tobaccos and today's selection is Sleepy Creek. It is a cherry vanilla Cavendish sold in bulk.
Sometimes it is the simple things that are hard to get right. Sleepy Creek does that. The cherry vanilla and Cavendish all come through in a pleasant relaxing smoke.
Every time I mix an English blend with aromatics I come up with something where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Tonight, in the cold, on the rear deck: one part Eastfarthing, one part 50/50 Panna Cotta and Barbados Plantation, one part frankenblend melange of VBC, RLP-6, BCA, and EA Carey Revolution Tabac.
@motie2 On a previous suggestion of yours I have been looking for the Panna Cotta, as of last night P&C had none in stock. I have 2 jars out ready to go, Sutliff Christmas Spice (GREAT) and McClelland 2016 Holiday Spirit (also GREAT). Today was too cold for me to head out into the Arctic here, plus I am still workinh here since about 0700 this morning. Tommorow morning is back to the Dermatologist for more bopsies, and when I get back home,if i is a bit warmer I might go burn some of this great stuff.
It's a bit "warmer" today, so I'm out in the garage again, smoking C&D's Bayou Morning in my Charles Towne cob. I don't mind the cold as much as having to layer up to stay warm in the garage. I feel like the kid brother in A Christmas Story.
On break from more pipe work. Doing some Gatlin-Burlier Rum and Maple in a MM cob. It's a very thick smoke producing blend with a pleasant aroma. Really enjoyable...
I'm recovering from unloading two trucks in one day. My after work pipe was trout stream from King Street emporium in a large Missouri Meerschaum. My after supper pipe was 221B Baker Street in my Velani Caprice model 76.
Cracked open my first tin of Sutliff's Eastfarthing last night and left some baccy out to dry. This is pretty damp tobacco, but the wait was worth it. Fired it up in my Peterson XL14 and wow, this stuff is great! It smells just like classic pipe tobacco should, with the Latakia providing some depth for a satisfying smoke. This stuff reminds me of a better Shortcut to Mushrooms, and that was a great blend to begin with. I highly recommend this tin to every pipe smoker out there.
@thebadgerpiper I asked your opinion in another folder. Thank you. For me, it fills the Frog Morton Cellar hole: a Lat blend an aro smoker such as myself can enjoy.
@motie2, I will get back with you on the Black Vanilla, have to smoke a few more bowls before I can give a non- review, review if that makes any sense. Anyway I got my order of Sutliff Eastfarthing and Panna Cotta.Have not tried Panna as of yet.Eastfarthing was pretty good, in spite of the fact it had a touch of Latakia of which I’m not a fan. It wasn’t strong but I could taste it. I was getting a couple of other vibes from the blend that I thought had a bit of a floral note to it. All in all I would buy again.
Sitting outside by the fire with a hot cup of coffee, and a bowl of bulk mango from my local guy. It's about 40 degrees, and the family has deserted me.
Happy Accident in a bent Missouri Meerschaum. This tobacco sounds so wrong. It is a blend of Almost Heaven (Virginia, burley, Cavendish cased with vanilla ) blended with 25% latakia.
@buflosab Thank you. Like you, I'm not a Latakia fan, but recently I've found I like a little Latakia in my aromatic blends; sort of aromatic-English lite. Eastfarthing is about as much Latakia as I can take, but I like it. The Panna Cotta appears to be extra vanilla Sutliff Vanilla Custard, in the same way that Molto Dolce is Creme Brulee plus.
@motie2 I plan on writing a review for Eastfarthing on my pipe blog and repost it to tobaccoreviews.com. I see there's only five reviews of it on there, and it definitely deserves more attention and love. I don't smoke aromatic blends all that often, so I appreciate it when companies branch out and add something unique to an aromatic.
Getting ready to break in my Bing Missouri Meerschaum cob with C&D's Crooner. I didn't originally intend to combine the two, but looking back, it's fitting to break in a Bing with the blend named after the singer.
I just lit up some Hartwell Signature from a tin I set aside in October of 2014. Pipe of choice is an ancient billiard from Watkins' Corner, a long defunct downtown Detroit pipe shop. The pipe probably dates to '75 or so.
Tonight I'm having vanilla fudge (chocolate Cavendish with a hint of vanilla ) in a medium Missouri Meerschaum. King Street Emporium does have some interesting tobaccos.
As a pretty heavy latakia smoker, I decided to smoke some 1-Q that I've had in a mason jar for a change. It was Ok but it only confirms my love of latakia. That will fulfil my aromatic desire for another few months.
Maiden voyage for my new pocket pipe with some Lane BCA. Talk about a nose warmer, and gives a surprisingly cool smoke. I think this will be one of my go to pipes for that 25 / 30 minute smoke when those occasions arise. I like this pipe...
