I have a measure of tobacco from a 10+ year old jar of Erinmore Mixture loaded in a RubyBark 3111 this evening. I am smoking it after enjoying some homemade “street tacos” with a generous helping of grilled Serrano peppers & onions, cilantro and lime, with a sprinkle of Cotija cheese.😋
I received a couple of loot boxes this week. So I’m smoking some of the Kohlhase & Kopp “Caribbean Blue-Bellamy” in my Pete SH Hansom Barley Spigot this evening. The tin description says Honeydew Melon, Banana, Orange / Danish Aromatic / Loose Cut. The melon is coming through in spades, very tasty and it has a great room note too. I let it dry out for 15 minutes or so, it was pretty moist. It’s smoking beautifully, but this pipe has been great from the first bowl. It’s a keeper.
@RockyMountainBriar I have never had a bad blend made by Kohlhase & Kopp - or just Kopp, as Kohlhase left the company two years ago. Anyway, all of the Caribbean Blue series that I've smoked have been good. I've smoked the Bellamy, Drake, Graham and Seegar so far.
If you can get it, try their Stormy North and Stormy South. Stormy North is flavored with toffee and Tonka bean. Stormy South is an interesting blend flavored with Mango and Lilac. Don't let the Lilac scare you off. It give the blend a light floral note and doesn't overpower the tobacco.
I've also recently acquired two other Kopp Limited blends: Anchors Ahoy and Flame 1919. The Flame 1919 is a smooth non-aromatic containing cube cut Virginia, cube cut Burley, Cavendish and Perique - I find it very light on the Perique. Anchors Ahoy is flavored with the fruit of the baobab tree. It's has a vanilla, pear and a little citrus. One of the website mention a grape flavor but I don't taste grape when I smoke it.
Thanks for the rundown on the blends @PappyJoe. I have been looking at all of those blends…except the one or two? that contain Latakia🤢🙂
Tonight, after a dinner of two grilled egg sandwiches and a cuppa Joe, I have my Baraccini Halloween 2023 “Jack” 320 pipe (gee, I wonder what company makes these stummels/pipes 🤔) loaded with some of the Mac Baren’s “Stockton”. My coffee mug was nearly empty after dinner, and mysteriously some Evan Williams filled the void…dang ghosts. A half mug of warmed Kentucky Bourbon with a slight coffee flavor😉 pairs nicely with the Dark Fired Kentucky in the tobacco👍🏻.
Hmm, not many pictures here. I hope everyone is alright😳
I am enjoying a “modified” Hot Toddy this evening. It reminded me of hot cider, so I have a Comoy’s Designer 800 #1709 loaded with C&D “Low Country “-“Santee”. I thought the apple topping on the tobacco would be a good pairing, and it is, even though the apple is ever so slight.
Just back from 7 days at Branson, MO. Just the wife and me... had a great time. Picked up my Silmarillion book for a little reading on the back porch and thought I'd do some Peter Stokkebye 24 Nougat in a homemade church warden...
I’m watching the NatGeo film “Endurance” about Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic Expedition and the heroism, will power, and survival endurance of he and his crew. I have my Peterson Great Explorers “Crean” loaded with some G.L.Pease “Windjammer”. Tom Crean was also with Shackleton on this expedition and was instrumental in ultimately saving their asses.
@Zouave1864 Heck, everybody back then was a big pipe guy🙂
It was interesting hearing about the things they tried to smoke when they ran out of tobacco when stranded for months in that desolate part of the world. I heard seagrass boiled along with their pipes in order to try and get some of the tobacco flavor out of their, I’m sure, very well used pipes, then smoke the dried “infused” seagrass. Something about seal blubber too…seal blubber, in a pipe, smoking😳😖🤢
@RockyMountainBriar and @opipeman yep, I agree when I'm out, I'm out. I draw the line at seaweed. I did read somewhere that after Einstein quit, he still chewed on his old pipes
I’m such a sucker. I’ve been looking at a Peterson Killarney 53 Lovat for some time. I decided to pull the trigger when they offered a “Free” C&D Wintertime Reserve tin of tobacco with the purchase of a new Pete, and the pipe alone just made free shipping limit by less than a dollar. The pipe is great, the tobacco….not as aromatic as I envisioned. It’s probably leftovers and floor sweepings, kinda rough. Oh well, it is smoking cool at least.👍🏻. I should have went for the “Midnight Moxie” blend instead.
I've always passed up on the tobacco offered in the "Buy a pipe, get a free tin" promotions. I've always felt that if the blend was somehow really good and special, they would make enough so that more people could buy it.
No golf today. Rained 7 - 9 inches in 2 days (depending on the area). Consequently I started my day with some Lane BCA in a reworked and restemmed noname.
@PappyJoe It’s a mental thing. I’ve been looking at getting a Killarney 53 for years, the “free” tin just makes it somehow easier🙂. I have many different C&D Wintertime “L.E.” blends, I have yet to smoke any that stand out. Like I mentioned, I think they gather up all of their leftover tobacco and mix them up for a “special” run. Essentially “floor sweepings”.
@RockyMountainBriar If that's the case, and you're not being sarcastic, you're better off ordering the "Best of the Rest" from P&C (monetarily speaking).😊

Interesting mount on that pipe...
What can I say, I’m a sucker for Sterling Silver, especially with a little flair.🙂

I can't think that I could ever be addicted to pipe tobacco to the point that I would try any of those substitutes.
From a few days ago...the blue Molina stuffed with LL7 and a sniffer of 10 year old Bulleit.

I can't disagree with that logic.

Or, as I prefer to call it, my UP... (Ugly Pipe)...
