Ask the Tobacconist: Pipe Smoking Techniques (1-27-17)
Have a question about your business? Now’s the time to ask. Our resident tobacconist takes questions directly from you, addressing the issues and problems facing today’s modern tobacconist.
@motie2 That article sure was written from the tobacconists point of view. 1) Don't buy a cheap basket pipe, they are all "low quality crap (and they probably don't sell any). 2) Buy "Good Quality" tobacco (my guess is...preferably from them). 3) You need three "Good Quality" pipes a day to keep them serviceable (so 27 "Good Quality" pipes if you want to smoke three times a day each week?). Actually they don't really mention anything but a daily rotation, so maybe you only need three? 4) I am surprised they mentioned using a golf tee for a tamper, I would have expected something like "Only use a tamper fashioned from precious metal so it does not impart any 'off flavors' to the smoke".
Just having some fun with my observations. I may be a bit jaded
New update for my pipe blog. Had to put this entry on hold when my son was born, but managed to finish it tonight and get it posted. None of the info will be new for all of you, but I thought it was worth discussing:
It's a magical plant that when brewed into a potion will give the drinker the perminate ability to heal themselves and others. Oh, and it turns your hair blonde. Is that what it is??
Yep, I grew some nice tobacco a few years ago Some plants were at 5-6’ tall, and the bottom leaves of the Green River Burley plants (not shown) were 2-3’ long and 18-24” wide.
Anyone find a photo of this mechanism? Never heard, much less seen one of these contraptions... 🤔 I wonder what that small unit attached to the right side is?

Did you grow that tobaccy
No, sir. I stumbled across it down an internet rabbit hole. Never knew tobacco had flowers.......
Those bottom leaves look like they are ripe, or nearly so.
