I've been rotating the evening cocktail daily for the last week in an effort to try some I have not had before, but it was a long day and a Johnnie Walker black and soda is easy
@mapletop This is a Nicaraguan Rum that is aged for 16 years in American white oak barrels. It is smooth and makes for a good sipping rum. I don't find it as syrupy as some aged dark rums so that's a plus for me. I also get an oaky vanilla note that is similar to a good aged bourbon. One reason I tried this one was because I was told it had "delicate notes of tobacco, charred oak and natural vanilla" I've only had two ounces so far, but it hasn't disappointed me but I'm still trying to figure out all the flavors.
I think it would be a waste to mix anything - including ice - with this rum.
I messed up. I guess it’s worded slightly different. It’s a pint glass of straight gin, but you probably already assumed that🙂. I will have to see if I can find the list of “Most Manly Drinks” and post it over in S&G’s. Hmm, I think I have a list of top rated gins from a few years ago too.
I don’t recall exactly where I found this? Somewhere down the interwebs rathole though. I think, out of these that I have tried, I like #8 Millers for Gin &Tonic, and Tanqueray for Martini’s. I will mention, Montana’s Montgomery Distillery’s “Whyte Laydie” gin has the smoothest mouth feel of any gin…or liquor I’ve had.
Try a Trainwreck. Take a 10 oz. schooner of beer. Drop in a shot glass of 190 proof grain alcohol. Chug it and chase it with a shot of Jim Beam. (I drank a number of these in Nome, Alaska, 1972).
A Texas Pelican Hurricane (Named after the bar just outside of Vinton, LA - about 15 miles across the state line from Texas). A Collins glass packed with ice. Add 1/3 bourbon, 1/3 dry gin and 1/3 white creme de menthe (or peppermint schnapps). Back in the 1970s, this was about $5 each and you got to keep the glass. If you drank four of them, walked outside and then came back in and found your seat, they gave you $10 back.
There was another drink there that I can't remember the name of it for some reason. It was 1/3 tequila, 1/3 rum and 1/3 sloe gin. (edit: I remembered the name! The Sterile Stud.)
@PappyJoe Yes, he sounded kinda wussy to me as well, but pretty humorous. You gotta admit though, a pint of straight gin would be pretty manly…..if one could handle it. I know a couple of people that could probably get that done. One US Marine I know (not either of my siblings) drinks big A&W/ Beer Mugs full (to the top) of Crown Royal and maybe 3-4 normal home size ice cubes…often. I have seen him drink at least 3 in as many hours, and he was still going……he might have a problem🤔😳
@RockyMountainBriar I could probably handle a pint of gin, but it would probably take three or four hours and then at least six hours of sleep before I could walk.
@u@utilityworker101 I discovered Salignac about a year ago. It’s the only cognac I buy now.

Ahh, a nice Beefeaters with a dash of vermouth, shaken...
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I’m healing but it sucks not being able to taste anything!
”This too shall pass.”🙂

Sterile Stud, that mixture just might make it come true.

I’ve been meaning to try that cognac. How is it?
