@Londy3 You are correct, it's like the whiskey version of dry white wine, but in this case even though it is called double rye, it tastes like it only has a condimential amount.
Straight rye whiskey is, generally speaking, not my cup of tea, but this one that was gifted to me has very little of that taste and finish, its decent bourbon but not one I would necessarily recommend.
I finally purchased a bottle of Aviation Gin, a gin that I have been wondering about for awhile now. I decided to go with a dirty…actually, “filthy” martini🙂. This gin does not have as much of the citrus/florals as say Bombay Sapphire or Hendrick’s which both make an awesome Gin & Tonic. I like Tanqueray better for a nice dry martini, and this Aviation is working well for a martini. I think it would make a passable Gin & Tonic, maybe with an orange twist to give it a bit more citrus.
I think I'm probably the only one these days that still drinks Beefeaters (something my parents always drank as well). Over time I've gotten curious and have tried all the other gins on my store shelves, and they all taste like the distillers are purposely trying to take the "bite" out of gin--that's like taking the pepperiness out of a good red Virginia--it's simply not the way it's supposed to be. Beefeaters is still made the way it was when I was growing up, kick, bite, 'unrefined' top notch gin in my opinion.
Speaking of martinis, if anyone is looking for great bitters, this is the only place I have found orange bitters. I found that alot of the very old martini recipes call for it.
@Zouave When I was at the liquor store the other day buyingthe gin, I saw Orange Bitters, almost picked some up. Another interesting one they had was Peach Bitters…tough to pass up, but my finances would not allow it at the time.
Can't do gin especially beefeater 🤢 it's harsh and I can't get passed the Christmas trees. However, I try Hendricks once and I did like it. So maybe I can give the Aviation a shot if it doesn't smell like pine trees🤷♂️
Well Lads; Today I will be 78 years old. I will load my favorite pipe with my favorite tobac go to my smoking shed and reflect on all those years and wonder if i have done my part. When I say my prayers tonight I will thank the Good Lord for blessing me far and away beyond what I deserve. I am also thankful to be able to be around another year to spend with those that I love. Tonight after supper I will pour two fingers of the Irish and toast meself. It is proud I will be if any of you would be kind enough to join me. Chun do shláinte
@opipeman Happy flipping Birthday!!! Only you can determine if "you've done your part" and what metric you would apply to yourself to make that determination.
But I for one, based on your statements and participation here on TPL believe you to be an honorable man & American citizen.
I believe everyone has regrets, especially of choices made in our youth, but its not something that lamentation will solve and thus you should be kind to yourself IMHO because this is how learning curves function.
I sincerely wish you the best day brother, CHEERS!!!!!
@opipeman Happy Birthday!!! "May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back" Since I only drink Sweet Vermouth I'll raise a glass to you, saluté!
@Londy3 The Aviation has juniper, not so much citrus/botanical. It is closer to Tanqueray probably not quite Beefeaters. I prefer nearly any other gin I have had to the Aviation gin. It might have to grow on me? I’m not quite sure what is “wrong?/Off” with it.
@opipeman Well, I don’t have any Irish Whiskey proper, so Rabbit Hole bourbon will have to do. I did load my Peterson Barrel with some Peterson “Irish Whiskey” tobac however🙂

My wife loves IPA!
I had a Woodchuck Hard Cider with dinner, now it's time to relax with a Sweet Vermouth and Sparkling Water.
Try that VooDoo Juice Force!
This is new. Also an imperial!!! An excellent IPA at 9.5 but, you'd never know it. Yep, it's that good 👍

Me hates hoppy😖. It’s what keeps me from drinking beer.
Mmmm, I love grapefruit.
