Starting the day with GLP Abingdon in a bent MM Apple Diplomat along with a k-cup coffee. The Post Office should be contacting me to head in and pickup my baby chicks!
NOTHING! It's too damn hot down here. How hot is it? I heard the devil is punishing some souls from the seventh level of hell by sending them to SE Louisiana.
How hot is it? I went to the store an bought a pack of pork chops the other day. They were fully cooked by the time I got home.
How hot is it? The cockroaches are knocking on peoples doors and asking for ice water.
It’s been unseasonably cool the past few days. The highs have been around 85F-88F or so. It’s supposed to get back to normal temps in the following days….mid to upper 90’s.
Motie 2: Hot as hell here in Southern NJ with several days in the mid 90's. Just saying hello and inquiring about your wifes health. I am STILL on Chemo (3.5 years) and feeling like crap. The things that a chemo program leaves you with healthwise is not fun. Next Weds is my next infusion, then I feel it more for 2 to3 days after. I am not giving up, I have to just deal with it. The best diversion is to sit on my porch and smoke a cigar or a pipe once or so a day. Stay well. I have your wife on my nightly prayer intentions.
@motie2; I think I owe you a retraction or maybe a full blown apology. A few years ago, you posted your praise for E. A. Carey Pipes. I responded that I thought smoking a Carey was like kissing your sister. I have 2 Carey's but never liked them much. I tried to sell one of them earlier this year, but no takers. Last week I decided to try and burn a bowl in it and found it to be a pretty good smoker. I did the same with the other and it proved the same. Something has changed, maybe it was the tobac I smoked back then. At any rate, I was wrong. I'm a convert.
It was pretty warm in the shop/warehouse, so I decided to burn a bowl in the shade, a little breeze….it was glorious. All the while watching the show, the “Blue Angels” are in town for the airshow this weekend…smok’in🇺🇸. Go Brandon! I have my RMB “All Briar” loaded with some C&D “Espresso”. I have a little video, but I don’t know how to link it🙁 I’m iPhone challenged.
I bought this Kiseru years ago, it was missing the mouth piece and the bamboo was partially broken off. I cut off the splintered bamboo square and cold forged a mouthpiece from a piece of copper tubing. I purposely “dinged” the surface of the copper for aesthetics, then I sweated the silver finish on with some lead free plumbing solder. I have been waiting to get some Japanese Kioki Kizami tobacco, but I have had no luck. My cousin and her Japanese husband have not been back to Japan to visit his parents for several years now. I was hoping they could buy some Koiki Kizami and bring it back on the airplane. It is not imported commercially🙁. I decided that “Five Brothers” (a fine shag cut burley) is about as close as I can get, so that is what I am smoking🙂. My Tobac Manil “Tabac De La Semois La Brumeuse” is a pretty fine cut shag that should make a passable substitute too.
@motie2 Yep, already seen the SPC piece. The other, not sure…I’m not downloading it.
I have been looking for an tobako-bon for a few years now too. I may have to just make one. Tsuge makes/made a bamboo ash receptacle, kinda pricey for a big piece of grass with a lid.
Gray, cool and rainy, but, the chores are done and the coffee's made for the morning and in the Thermos! The weather put me in the mood for GLP Westminster in a bent MM Apple Diplomat, the tobacco from my heritage and the coffee from my up bringing.

Doing some After Dinner in a "BIM" pipe.
I love me pipes & tobac, but a week with the Grandkids would be heaven. Exhausting, but heaven.

Good to see you back. That is a good looking pipe, Brother.

Pricey? I'll say.....

You too are the ultimate survivalists. If you can't find a pipe, you just make your own. I am envious.
Growing and curing smokeable tobacco is even more important🙂
I’ve seen the tobako-bons on EBay for less ~$200-$300, but still way more than I want to spend.
