I'm down to three blends on hand: Vanilla Custard, Mrs. Hudson's, and Barbados Plantation. I find myself smoking only one blend, a couple of times a day, every day. I remember this happening in the 1980's, in my first go around with pipes. Anyone else drifted into smoking one blend exclusively? And what I'm actually smoking is the Barbados.
@mfresa -- I sure wish I could have tried FM Across the Pond before the Syrian Latacia all ran out. It's pretty much impossible to find now. Wonder why McClellan didn't just start making this with Cyprian Latakia instead of discontinuing it?
@jfreedy - there might be a few tins out there if you look, or someone willing to trade. It does have a "perfumey" note to it, but I find the difference between it and Cyprian latakia negligible. There are other good latakia blends out there.
I'm shocked that I've actually stuck to my commitment to smoke only one bulk tobacco brand a week. I've been tempted ... but have stuck to my guns. Having said that I decided there is no way I'll be able to continue this practice. It's about as stupid an idea as only eating one brand of breakfast cereal when you have a cabinet full of alternative choices. But I will limit my choices to the jarred bulk blends for a while and limit those tinned tobaccos for special occasions. At least until I see a chunk of the bulk blends disappearing.
Throughout the week I've been blending Sutliff Chocolate Mousse with Carter Hall, and yesterday I must have added more Carter Hall than Chocolate Mousse because it was a pretty bland smoke. This morning I filled my pipe with straight Chocolate Mousse and it tasted like the type of old fashion hard fudge like my Mom used to make. Not the soft stuff they sell now mixed with marshmallow fluff. The good stuff, loaded with sugar, and so hard you had to beat it with a hammer to knock off a chunk. I almost forgot how good the Chocolate Mousse was by itself because I've been cutting it to tone down the flavor. Don't know what I was thinking.
Today I got back in the site and celebrated with a bowl of Barbados Plantation in my Charatan canted Dublin (or is it a Zulu?) and three fingers of Jonah's Curse.
Frog Morton original in a large straight billiard "imported briar" pipe... sitting on my back porch in a summer rain storm reading the word. Perfect morning!
Smoking some E A Carey Revolution Tabac in a Peterson 999, one of my recent pipe buys. Really like the new Peterson line, Dublin Edition, very classic Peterson, very affordable.
Pulled out some C&D Corn Cob Pipe And Button Nose to get me in the mood for Christmas. It's been so hot and humid I'm actually looking forward to freezing my ass off this winter.
I started out with a nice bowl of H&H Black House in a Bent Bulldog
Then I moved on to Prince Albert in a beautiful Edwards Billiard, a gift from a fellow piper.
Next was a simple peasure... PA Cherry Vanilla in my ol Dunhill Pot.
Then it was off to what I'm smoking now...
I don't know what it is about Esoterica blends, but I've yet to try one
that I didn't like. Admittedly, the Stonehaven needed a little more
dryin out than I gave it the first try, but it is a great smoke.
I absolutely love Penzance but a very close second for me is Margate. I usually have a bowl of it at least once a week.
Tonight,
while sittin here in the mancave I caught myself lookin up @ the
Esoterica shelf and decided to try the Pembroke sittin up there callin
my name.
This
is a great smoke. Very rich and creamy. Noticeably spicier than
Margate, which I understand is very similar minus the Cognac topping
added to Pembroke.
I'm smokin it in my Sav 320KS Author (my Margate Briar).
@jfreedy - I've never been to McCranie's - I live in Michigan I discovered their products a number of years ago. I have smoked many tins of Murdock's and Red Ribbon. Both are very fine tobaccos. About to light up some MM1938 in a Stanwell army mount billiard.

@dbh1950 -- As a Carey pipe smoker, I've been curious about the Revolution blend. Can you tell me something about it?
