Trying for the very first time some "Asteleys Straight Virginia Flake". Smoking this new blend in my Missouri Meerschaum Corn Cob "Stack". Heading out doors on this nice cool cloudy day to fire up my second bowl with my four legged team members. :-) So far so good.
Trying some Lane HGL for the 1st time. Supposedly the letters stand for Herschel G. Lane, the man responsible for bringing Lane tobacco from Germany to the United States. This was his tobacco blend of choice. Matches860 gave a very good review on YouTube concerning this blend. Man I miss that guy. Anyway, using a repaired Paronelli as my pipe of choice this afternoon...
Smoking some SG “Grousemoor” in an old LHS #84 Cavalier (a true cavalier). I got it as an estate, a previous owner had tried to “gorilla” the stem and drain cap with pliers, hence the nicks/notches in the aluminum fitments. I used a bit of a hot and cold combo and finally got them unstuck without further damage. A lot of old Kirsten pipes get similarly stuck and the hot cold combo gets them freed up too. This is a good smoking pipe and tobacco combination by the way🙂
Smoked some C&D Old Court for a change of pace, It tastes / smells exactly as the name suggests, sort of musty, a mostly burley blend and as such probably not suited for the faint of heart.
The funny thing is I can't articulate why I like it I just do. I imagine they don't sell very much of it.
@mapletop A good suggestion sir. I myself do not have trouble with them binding. I always clean my pipes after each smoke. I suppose if I let them set for twenty-thirty years they might bind? Another good thing (in my opinion) is the dry climate here, aluminum does not corrode?/get the white powdery stuff on it very quickly. I have some beeswax. I have thought about using it on tenons, threaded or otherwise, but I was afraid it might attract dust/dirt and make them stick. When I refurbish my pipes, I do buff the tenons with Carnauba Wax, which is dry and keeps them slick and shiny🙂
@mapletop As a matter of fact, HGL, IMHO, can ba a great intro into English type blends, or vice versa. To me it's more of a hybrid between true aros and true English. There's just enough Latakia to be present, but not at the forefront. More of a hint. To me, this is a perfect blend when those on the both sides of the isle are looking for a little change...
Went to our annual library book fair with the wife this morning. Filled a paper grocery bag full for 6 bucks! Anyway, found this book among many others. Now sitting on the screened-in back porch glancing through it with some Lane 1-Q and what else but my "Hobbit pipe"...
@RockyMountainBriar I have not bought any in years as I have a few pounds, but I checked and only smoking pipes and tobacco pipes carries it any more; P&C must have dropped it.
There is a wee bit of latakia in it but very little There's Perique and Black Cavendish in it, but I really don't notice it It sells for $3.66 an oz bulk from smoking pipes.
Components: Black Cavendish, Burley, Latakia, Perique, Virginia
I filled up a Yorkshire Lovat gifted to me by a fellow TPL member with some SG “Cabbie’s Mixture” and I am headed to the shop to maybe turn out another Cholula mini-pipe and/or a new tamper?

Thank you Brother. My bride tells me that every now and then. I guess if you think that also, it must be true.

What beautiful work. Thank you sir!
That is a really cool looking pipe for sure.
Yes, as a matter of fact I did🙂

Old Court sounds like it might be right up my alley….unless it has Latakia in it.

Tried some Escudo in my Sav. Eleganza 111KS
Keep an eye on Pipes & Cigars, I think the have it occasionally.
This is a Savinelli Estella that I won on eBay for my son. It is a beauty and I wish I had kept it.
