So this is weird. I tried an old jar I had in my cellar today. It's been like three years since I had this. Beautiful day outside today so cracked open a refreshing ice coffee and loaded my MM cob with BRM. I don't like it anymore.
Just finished a bowl of C&D Star of the East in a bent Dublin Mario Grande while downloading some photos from my phone to my computer.
The photos were taken last night at the monthly CPCC meeting at Arlington Pipe & Cigar.
Had I been thinking, I would have put a greater effort into setting up and taking these pictures with different views, but, it was busy and there was a Savalini / Peterson Rep conducting a trunk sale.
One of our members who we only see occasionally has some of the most exquisite pipes you have ever seen and he showed up last night with a couple of $10 K pipes.
This first pipe has the most perfect straight grain and is symmetrical around the entire pipe, unfortunately the perspective is lost in this image as bowl of the pipe is the size of your fist. Its one of the largest pipes I have ever seen.
The second image, a volcano, is actually a Dunhill and was a commission where three were made and one was chosen, this one was one that was not selected, again the grain is completely symmetrical.
@Londy3 Ya, that stuff always sucked. You might as well stuff your pipe with those Cherry wax lips that were around when we were kids.
Remember the neighborhood grocery store…we called ours “The Little Store”, it was about six blocks away…maybe. Just safe enough to walk to, back then, (unattended) oh my😳! They had boxes of Swedish Fish and other candies for 1¢ apiece….they were not individually wrapped either, oh my😳! I can’t believe we’re still alive. No seatbelts, dad smoked like a chimney in the car with the windows rolled up, us kids were left in the car parked behind the bar by the dumpsters while dad was inside…for hours….in the 100F summers on the south side of a two story brick building. Ahh, the good ole days.
Smoking some Golden Triangle “Paulina” tonight in my Peterson 2017 POY…another first smoke break-in. I am working my way through this Perique tobacco series. I smoked the Golden Triangle “Grand Point” Friday evening in a Peterson Rau Spigot XL02. Yesterday was the “South Vacherie”, all great tobaccos, wish I could get more.
@RockyMountainBriar 🤣 LMAO you are so right. And I do remember those wax lips. How funny. It would be great to hang with you on a weekend. Probably laugh our asses off the whole time. Maybe one day, who knows?
Brothers you are bringing back memories that are way back in the old memory vault. @RockyMountainBriar; we would ride the city bus powered by electric overhead cables and go downtown to a show Hoppy, Roy or Gene. Nobody ever bothered us. I wish my granddaughters lived in such a world. They deserve better than what the present offers.
@RockyMountainBriar when I was a kid I used to work at a neighborhood deli. I remember selling those penny candies to the local kids and weighing it out on an old fashioned counter scale. A penny a swedish fish. 🤣
@Beetleman Check with @PappyJoe and his coffee treatment concerning getting rid of ghosting. I had to use it on a pipe a while back, and it really works. Or just do a search here at TPL on ghosting and you'll probably find it...😊
I had a busy weekend but managed to smoke some Charring Cross, Levant and Pete's Beard in various medium cobs. While the chicken is roasting, I'm finishing an MM Rob Roy full of Levant, and, anticipating opening the 500 gram bag of G&H Balkan Mixture that came in today!
Smoking the last in a series of four Golden Triangle tobacco blends “Belmont”. Smoking a Peterson 2014 POY. I bought this pipe as an estate and the draft hole was drilled about 3/32”-1/8” off of the floor of the pipe…probably the reason it was an estate…good for me👍🏻 I filled the heel with some pipe-mud a couple of years ago, it’s like concrete now. It smokes fine for me…score. I still have the Golden Triangle “100% real Perique” to blend in with something…or not. Maybe I will try a little of it straight….in a small pipe🤔
After a delicious roast chicken dinner I loaded a new MM Rob Roy cob with G&H Balkan Mixture. Following that up with Balkan Mixture in an older Rob Roy, happy days are here again!
Reliable cherry blends are hard to find. Most either bite or taste off; too sweet or fake cough syrupy. Middleton Cherry Blend was my second pipe tobacco in 1964. Like putting a rat in your mouth, but it smelled like heaven…. In a good way.
Smoking the little Pete Belgique tonight loaded with the straight Golden Triangle “Pure 100% St. James Perique”. It’s tasty, not overly spicy, a little “silo” dark sweetness. It is no where near as strong as I was expecting. I should have used a larger pipe. It does not hold a candle to the strength of SG “Black XX”.
