After taking care to the Dix drop head up to buddy's place for in-person game. Great to see old friends face to face again. Popped this old gem and it is like smoking pastry. Soooo good....

"If Holmes' before breakfast pipe consisted, as Watson says in
"The Engineer's Thumb", of plugs and dottles from yesterday's
smokes, and if he had been smoking 'ship's' yesterday, then it is
not surprising that he sometimes left his breakfast – and other
meals – untouched. "
@RockyMountainBriar I smoke English/Balkan and straight Virginia tobacco that I let dry before smoking. There's never any dottle like you get with aromatics that have humectants. Some blends can get ashy if you leave too little especially the Peterson/ Dunhill like EMP or London Mixture. I think it was John Paton who coined the term Delayed Gratification Technique, or DGT. Basically you load a pipe, smoke for a minute or two, let it rest for an hour or a day and light it up. If you're curious search Google for Corn Cob Primer.
@AceFour comes up with an interesting post…. Regarding the name of this blend, which some people mistakenly think is 'Hamborger Beermaster' because of the typeface used on the tin (a variation of blackletter known as Fraktur where the B and V are easily confused); the ship on the front is a German four-masted windjammer, called a "Veermaster".
@Balisong It would seem to be like smoking a cigar where the smoke gets filtered through the fresh tobacco. Relit cigars are freaking nasty😖, at least when I tried it.....once. I’m too “skeered” to try it in a pipe🙂. I’ll just load a smaller amount, or dump it. That’s the great thing about smoking a pipe, everybody is a little bit different, to each his own👍🏻
Smoking some Early Morning Pipe in a MM. I've had no desire for Latakia since I had Covid back in December. Probably something I'll only do a few times a year, maybe in colder weather.
Just received some more RLP-6. Received a advertisement from Tobaccopipes today talking about one of their Sutliff Private Stock was on sale, when I went to order- Sold Out. That was interesting.
The wife and I got a drake to replace the one that was killed most likely protecting his ducks. We integrated him with the two remaining ducks and one I hatched out this spring for a nice little duck flock. Now I'm relaxing for a bit with a pipeful of Tashkent that arrived from Peretti's today. If you like a sweet Balkan it's well worth the price!

Thanks, I made it from a wine bottle cork and an Aluminium Eve Trough Nail.

Wait. What?!?
....and a little happy hour 😁
It seems to me that leaving ~1/2 a partially smoked bowl overnight to smoke in the morning would be like smoking dottle. Not the case?
