I don't know if you know what a "cutie" is, but it is kind of a cross between an orange and a tangerine. Anyway, 7 weeks ago I placed a few peelings (outer side down) in a wide-mouthed sealed jar 2/3 filled with VG Black Cavendish (approximately 4-5 oz.) and let it set for 3 weeks. I then took them out and emptied the jar. I then put the tobacco back in reversing the order (top/bottom, bottom/top), and placed a fresh supply of cutie peelings (along with 1 small slice cut open to release the essence) on top same as before. I then let that set another 3 weeks. Result? Fantastic citris flavor and aroma. Downside, tobacco became extremely moist. Took 1/3 out and placed it on a mat to lose some of the extra moisture, then loaded it in a pouch for immediate use. Smoking some now in a little Paronelli squashed tomato. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY ALL!
I’ve always been worried about introducing mold into the tobacco buy using orange/citrus peels or apple peels and the like, especially with the extra moisture.
@RockyMountainBriar Can't say it won't happen. But with ever close inspections, especially while bringing some out on a tray for drying, I have yet to detect any signs... so far... I'm not sure if an airtight seal from a clamp type lid helps, but we'll continue to monitor as the weeks go by... I do know that the peelings when removed, just looked like dehydrated peelings with no sign of mold, but we'll see... Tnx buddy.
@RockyMountainBriar I lost my Dad in 1972, he was only 54 years old. Today I remember all the good times and all he did for me. Sad, but his memory gives me something to strive for.
Played my first round of golf with my senior friends this year. Really nice to see them after a long absence. Now starting to shut down the day with some CB Royal in my MM Cob...
Tonight I brought out my Cobbit Shire for Cob Tuesday and enjoyed a bowl of C&D's Sea Dog. I don't smoke this pipe often, but after today, I think that'll change.
Today is my 70th Birthday, and even though I swore not to open a new tin until I've smoked all the open tins I've already cracked into I decided to treat myself to one of my last remaining tins of Lane Limited "Wild Hare" ... my current favorite. Since I only have five tins left in my cellar of this discontinued blend - and I want to save it for as long as possible - I thought "what better occasion to crack open a tin than your 70th Birthday"? Since I have more years behind me than ahead, chances are there aren't going to be that many more birthday cakes in my future. So it would be a shame to unexpectedly kick-off with five full tins of "Wild Hare" in my cellar, and me all packed away in a box with no possibility of enjoying them. Seize the day!
Speaking of closer to the end than the beginning. An older friend (close to 70) brought out a tape measure and rolled it out to 90” and said “now look at your age in inches and see how much life you have lived, or will have to live (statistically in the US, the average is ~78.5 with women living longer than men by about 5 years). Even at my age, 55 almost 56, there is probably more of my life behind me than ahead, unless I beat the statistics or healthcare advances rapidly?
Almost a repeat, but enjoying some Lane BCA in a meer I used earlier this week while sipping on what I call half an half = iced down filtered water with cranberry-rasberry cocktail juice. A good thirst quencher...

Happy Birthday Joe......and many more
Happy Birthday!! Open and enjoy those tins because the next 70 years won't be as fun!
Forget the future; you can’t predict it
Forget the present; we didn’t get you one
As an aside, I fondly remember turning 70........
Currently smoking C&D's OJK Blue Label in my GBD Canadian.
