Last night I smoked a bowl of Sutliff "Taste Of Summer" in my Peterson Jekyll & Hyde and it was very good. The first time I smoked it I wasn't very impressed. The peach top note was a bit overwhelming and artificial for my liking. I seem to have trouble finding a fruit flavored blend I enjoy. But now that "Taste Of Summer" has dried out a bit in the tin I found it to be quite delightful. That artificial chemical taste was gone and the peach top note was tamed down and barely perceptible (which proved to be a good thing). All that remained was a sweetness with just a hint of peaches.
Spring is trying to get here, so I now have checked out my mower (sharpen blade, oil, air filter, etc.) Now getting the pump reassembled and ready to go while doing some Lane BCA in a reworked and refurbed no-name. Great little working pipe...
Breaking in the meerschaum bowl I made this evening after work, for my Kirsten pipes. Nice Stacked Billiard, a proper bowl size 1 1/2” deep by 13/16” bore. I have it packed to the top with Rattray’s “Exotic Orange”. Kick’in room note for smoking inside. It’s good to be the king😉
Went out to get mushroom compost in preparation for some planting Saturday, took a while as the pile at the mushroom farm was still semi frozen.
So I took my time and had a bowl of 10 Russians in a brushed black Stanwell 15 (work Pipe) while chipping away at it and then on the ride home had a bowl on Esoterica Margate In a Peterson 303 system pipe p-lip
had some Orlik Golden Sliced, forgot how good Virginias can be. I get into a rush far too often and speed up my cadence, but if I can remember to keep it nice and slow, It pays off in the end.
I have to say that you always appear to have the most "squared away" garage / workshop that I have ever seen.......Marine Corps "squared away". I have my rather cramped workshop in my basement, every time I go down to work on a project I end up with every tool I own on both work benches. Every other day or so while working, I have to go down and spent a bit of time putting everything away in the cabinets ready only to be brought out again. Semper fi Brother.
Yesterday was the first bowl was Exotic Orange (from before it became Exotic Passion) in a bent meerschaum. I followed that with a bowl of Red Rapparee in a Soren Freehand briar. Won't be smoking anything later tonight at the Mayan Imports Annual Pipe Night in Metairie, La. I'm saving myself the the Long Smoke competition. I won two years in a row before finishing 4th last year. My best time was 1 hour, 27 minutes.
Bought a C&D Blend I've not seen or heard about before called Redburn, Tried it out in one of my Stanwell 15s.
It has healthy portions of white and dark burley blended with red and bright Virginia with a touch of dark fired Kentucky, has a mild flavoring of dark rum / molasses and comes as a crumble cake.
The tobacco has a very homogeneous look and is just a tad on the dry side, The tin note was light, It smoked fine and the basic taste of the tobacco was OK..
I'll smoke it but it's nothing to write home about.

That’s one way to get around the site gremlins.
St. Patrick's Day 2018 blend I'm my military bit straight Peterson. I had to forego the Guinness this year. I have my annual blood work done tomorrow.

Best of luck in this year's Long Smoke competition!
