I'm a 51 year old pipe smoker from North Alabama, who has been smoking a pipe for over 51 years. My job allows me to travel quite a bit, and I am always looking for an unsuspecting tobacconist to drop in on, and keep the doors open past their normal operating hours.

Hello everyone, I'm Rick, my handle is rickhorn3. I live in OKC, been smoking a pipe since 1970. Afflicted with PAD, I now have about 200 pipes; everything from drugstore cheapiies and "freebies" with pouch purchase, to Upshall, Charatan, Dunhill, Don Carlos, etc  Also a handful of cobs; they smoke great even if not top-of-the-line elegant. I like reading, listening to classical music, playing my French Horn (in local band, orchestra and quintet) and raising my 2 cats, Munchkin and Jack the Ripper.

Hello to everyone. I'm enjoying reading through the introductions and am glad to see the array of people. I began smoking a pipe about 30 years ago as I departed the Submarine force. At the time I was beginning my study to become a Watchmaker, another quiet endeavor.

My most smoked pipe is a Country Gentleman corncob since it's my out-and-about pipe. At home I have a somewhat nice collection of Briars, the best of the bunch being a 1965 Dunhhill Tanshell.

As far as tobacco goes, I'm not fussy or what some would call snobby. I enjoy aromatics as much as English blends. My "favorite" changes all the time but I'd say it would mostly be the Dunhill DeLuxe Navy Rolls. I say it changes because occasionally you pop the tin of something you've had in the cellar for quite some time and are very pleased with it and wish you had bought more at the time.

I began listening to the Squire Podcast a little while ago and that's how I found this site and have been very happy poking around so far.

    With warm regards, I am,

    your friend,

     Phil

What's up everyone, I'm Nick from St. Louis, MO!  I have been smoking with my pipes for 11 years now.  My journey started when I was 18 helping my Grandpa fix a wall we accidently fell into (long story but clearly an accident).  On the floor was an old burnt up briar pipe that he used to smoke while he was in the Coast Guard in World War 2.  He would tell me these terrifying and terrific stories and how his pipe and God were his comforts at the time.  There is a beautiful picture of him sitting in his chair, reading a book, with pipe smoke surrounding him.  Even though he hadn't smoked in sometime, you could still smell the latakia blend that stained his chair and I can still imagine his white bearded face in my mind.  That day I asked if I may use his pipe and try the blend he tried.  His exact words were, "it'll put you on your butt...... absolutely."  He took me to John's Pipe shop in Clayton, MO and had the tobacconist make a strong blend of latakia and some other blend that smelled sweet like a vanilla.  I will always remember that his pipe smelled exactly like the tobacco, even though the tobacco was no in it.  My first bowl burned all the way down, which I was told I was lucky, and he even decided to have a bowl with me.  Grandma was furious but we had a great day and a memory that will not be taken away.  I, currently, don't know the blends he used but the sweet vanilla honeydew from Dan Tobacco is the closest to the sweet that I've ever came to.
My journey is a slow process and I wouldn't want it any other way.  I absolutely enjoy hearing of the other blends you all use and try.  I enjoy the stories and I enjoy explaining what works best for me.  I'm not a member of a local pipe club but I am noticing that a younger crowd is starting to come into pipe smoking.

I'm just a married man that works hard, enjoys a good smoke, and loves life.

    Have a smoky day,

    Nick

@deadpool57 - Your Grandpa is someone I would have liked to met and smoke a bowl or two with. I retired from the Coast Guard in 1993 after 21 years. I bet he had some really interesting stories to tell.

My grandfather was one of the influences in my starting with the pipe in 1972. I was stationed on an icebreaker on the west coast at the time.

Hi there everyone, I live on the Crystal Coast of NC. I've been smoking a pipe on and off now for about 10 years, the past year though is when I really started to enjoy it and the nuances of the different tobaccos I've tried. Hello my name is actually Jason. I guess you can tell by my username that I am a Boston Redsox fan but I am not from New England.  I am from Tennessee. Named my 21 year old son after the great Ted Williams so I have been a fan a long time. I am passionate about baseball but also about pipes and pipe tobacco. I have been lurking around the site for a few weeks and I am glad to be here. Some real experience and knowledge is being shared on this site. I am having fun with it. I recently found Country Squire Radio. It was recommended to me by Adrian The Blenderrecommender from my local brick and mortar. He also has a YouTube channel by the same name. I watch a lot of videos from the YouTube Pipe Community. My favorites are Matches 860 (John Harden), Public Piper, Stuff and Things, Pipe Nook, Bremen Pipe Smoker, and the Artful Codger to name a few. Check them out. If you love Pipe Smoking then you will be entertained for hours. Most of you probably know this but this is a great resource for the Pipe Smoking hobby. As for what I like...Well just about all tobaccos offer me something. I like English and Scottish as in Squadron Leader and My Mixture 965. I like Oriental Forward tobaccos. I love some Penzance. I presently have an open tin and a tin from the 90's unopened. I like Presbyterian Mixture and Frog Morton On the Bayou. I like Burleys. I really like Burleys. Did I say I like Burleys. C and D do these better than anybody. Haunted Bookshop is my favorite but I like Big and Burley after a Big Meal. I like VaPer and VaBur as well. I also really like OTC's and my absolute favorite is Velvet. Yes I like SWR and Carter Hall but there is something about Velvet that tickles my fancy. I collect and cellar tins and I just love talking about Pipe Hobby and exploring the depth of everything it has to offer. There are so many pipes, blends, and tobaccos that I will be able to spend the rest of my life learning something new about the hobby. Thanks for reading this if you did and I look forward to learning something new from all of you.

    Cheers,

    Jason aka REDSOX

HI all. I am a recently retired pipe smoker that first smoked in the late seventies. I live in the Grand Rapids Michigan area and I am primarily a latakia and/or English blend smoker that still enjoys a solid aromatic from time to time. While I own a relatively new Peterson and 2 relatively new Savinelliis,  I own a variety of used estate pipes that are restored, and a 30 plus year old large gourd Calabash with a light walnut custom  made  rack. I am into cellaring tobacco and hope to grow some from seed this year.

@pipeman83 @Redsox @Deadpool57 As a new englander who lives and dies with the Red Sox I'm glad to know there are some other baseball fans on here!  What are you guys thinking for the coming season?  I of course believe Boston will win the whole thing, and I will be awful glad when spring training gets started.  I was just at Foxwoods (smoking my corn cob in the casino the whole time!) for red sox winter weekend, got to meet carlton fisk, wade boggs, pedro martinez, and many more during the weekend.  My son who plays catcher in little league even got to visit with Jason Varitek for a bit about playing catcher :)  My son is 9 so he only knows 'Tek from my dvd's and the occasional guest appearance on a Sox telecast but he was pretty pleased none the less.  @Deadpool57 - I know you are in StL but what is the word out of K.C. this year? Is there any hope of the Royals, Indians, and Tigers battling it out for the division crown?
