@Londy3 Nice grip on the Smith! By the way, how are those speed loaders? For years I've thought about trying one out...I currently use speed strips; but I've gotten so good at using speed strips, and they're so compact, I've never gone through with buying a loader. Are they fast? I imagine that with everything gun-related, it takes practice for sure.
Always with me. I have others, but this one is my companion: Taurus Slim 709 (7+1 9mm) with a crimson trace, Sticky holster which fits perfectly in the small of my back, extra loaded mag + a small bag (kept in my center console) containing extra rounds plus batteries for the crimson trace...
@vtgrad2003 I have both the j-strips and speed loaders. They both take practice and both have pros/cons. But these are the better strips due to the spacing on a five shot revolver.
Ammo prices seem to have fallen from their stratospherically challenging heights. Seems like you can now regularly get quality, brand name, 9mm for 0.50 per round or less now and even 38 special is down to about 0.70 per round. Still high relative to a couple of years ago, but a hell of a lot better than last year. Ode to the days of $10 a box 9mm and $14 a box 38!
Fortunately I had a stockpile before all this crap hit, but now it's dwindled, gotta start thinking about restocking.
@motie2 That would be a legal hunting weapon here in Montana as long as you are not hunting waterfowl (since they migrate, they fall under federal laws), and even then if the gun/magazine/s were limited to three rounds total. For upland birds, and every other type of game or varmint, it would be perfectly legal even with the magazine/s fully loaded.
As for me, an “assault” weapon would be any weapon taken into battle, it’s just that some would be better than others. The color of the weapon should not be a discriminator either, some of the best and most highly tested, battle proven, weapons have wood furniture.
IF, I have to protect myself, I would want at least the level of technology the “other” person has. Even better, I want something superior.
Oh, don’t expect me to protect you, you protect yourself, or not.
@RockyMountainBriar I hear that sentiment a lot, and all of it perfectly sensible, but even though I have many pistols...I still prefer my trusty 38 revolver for carry...too much technology scares me in situations where milliseconds count.
One of the regular's at our live game asked one night, "I wonder which gun I should get?" there was no pause and another player immediately said, "The one that fits in your mouth, not shut up and deal the cards!"
I’m not really worried about get’in jacked in Montana, but if I conceal carry [now legal here in Montana (without any special permit or license) for everyone that is not a convicted crook] it is usually this little “mouse gun” with an extra mag. It is very small and light. Hey, any gun you carry is better than the one you leave at home. I do have a larger CCW, but it does not disappear like this one. Sometimes I even forget I have it, especially since I don’t carry all the time….oops. I hope I remember I have it if I need it someday. Cute, huh😉. I have a smaller revolver, yep I said smaller revolver, but it does not pack the “punch” ha,ha, this little tiger does.
It wasn't all that many years ago that one of Maine's Republican state legislators pulled out his gun and terrorized a woman and her kids for a very Karen reason.
Pipes and guns seem to go hand in hand. I live in Kansas, we can open or conceal carry with no permit. It keeps crime at a reasonable level. I will probably catch flack for this, but my home defense gun is a Hi-Point JHP (.45) it's heavy and ugly, but it is relatively easy to shoot for a .45 and I could shoot it all day without a jam (if I could afford the ammo).
Aside from pipes, I collect knives and generally carry a stiletto with me for defense or any number of heavy work knives if I am in the yard. And I keep one machete by my desk (a pretty nasty one) and one by my bed
I also have a tactical cane (I use a cane anyway) with a solid aluminum shaft and a chrome-plated hook handle with a sharp point on the end. Being an old man, no one ever questions it.
If I understand my definitions correctly, and the way I learned it in the Corps, a true "assault" weapon has the capability to go FULL automatic. Anything else, no matter what it's made to look like, is not an assault anything...

Smells about the same.
Cat urine enjoys longer persistence and more ... uh .... funk.
And the extent to which the proposal was embraced is impressive.....
..... and hilarious.

Because my favorite one is just too big to conceal! (And is really hard on my shirts.)

Thanks. All good to know. Filed for future reference.
I'm with you there. I'm always packing my 38+p
