@motie2 Sketches of Spain is a classic. Chic Corea took a piece from it and titled it Spain and Al Jarreau put words to that and calls it Spain (I Can Recall), three good listens!
At times like these I can think of no better band to listen to than The Moody Blues. Spent the afternoon listening to their classic seven albums and I feel better already. The music is spiritually uplifting without being overtly religious in nature. Fell good music for the soul.
Nothing as disturbing for a young person to see as a 70 year old man sitting in a lawn chair jamming to the tunes of Mott The Hoople. I was huffing and puffing on my pipe surrounded by a cloud of smoke while twitching and jerking to the beat of the music in my chair. Poor neighbor kid probably thought I caught fire during an epileptic seizure.
For all of us in this age group, the music never dies, don’t mean to sound like a curmudgeon, I’m just not moved with what is popular today. Not to say their isn’t any talent, just don’t like the sound and sterile production is what I’m trying to say. People like what they like and I accept that for the most part.
I know our taste in music are as varied as our tastes in pipes and tobaccos, But I got to thinking the other day about how I never heard a Merle Haggard song that I didn't like. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of Willie Nelson CD's and I'm starting to feel the same about him. What a couple of incredible talents.
@ghostsofpompeii I can't dispute your statement or your taste in music. I just wish I had one tenth of their talent, maybe I would be able to play my guitar.
@PappyJoe, yes it is funny, in those days bands or artists pictures weren’t plastered all over the place, so they, we, I made a lot of assumptions on who was what. I know the first time I heard The Young Rascals I thought they were black. I had a black friend that thought The Fleetwoods from the 50s were black. So it goes.
@Zouave First person who popped into my head when listening to this was The Artful Codger. I may be a prog/rocker but I can appreciate any good music - and I really enjoyed this. Kinda' brings me back to the tunes I'd hear as a kid - music from my Dad's collection. Mom had all the Italian recording stars of the era - but Dad had a pretty eclectic taste in music from both the War era and a short time afterwards. Once Elvis and rock and roll came on the scene my Dad quit buying records.
Don't know if this is a recording from artists of the era ... or a new band mimicking music from that time. If they are a recent band - then they've done an awesome job of re-creating the era.
@ghostsofpompeii it's actually a modern band from Greece! And what's good enough for grandad, is good enough for me. Right? Probably why I enjoy the pipe so much.
Hello Pipe and Tobacco Aficionados, hope all is well. Slow puffing some "Stonehaven" blend and listening to Terry Callier live in London. I find myself seeking my music more and more each day and less of what people call news of the day. Matter of fact with me, it has been that way for some time now. My pipes along with my music and great reading materials have been on point. The right tobacco blend and pipe appears to be what really sets the stage for everything else to follow. I better double check my tobacco pouch. :-) Remember, smoke what you like and like what you smoke.
Sorry not into Classical, but I do like Jazz, Blues, the Crooners, Traditional Country.... But to be honest most of the time its Pink Floyd, Bob Seger, Kansas, Clapton....

Just sayin’........
I hear you but I'm 67 and was sitting under the shade tree in the front yard listening to Deep Purple and Moody Blues.
This station is on 24/7 and is great for EOD smoking.

With nothing else to do, I've been watching crap on youtube. I recently came across a couple of channels where young black people are reacting to old 60s and 70s.
The reactions when they see that The Righteous Brothers were white is hilarious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg4PdR_ZtEs

I do not believe George Strait has any songs I dislike.

The Righteous Brothers, man that takes me back! That was even before I was married. You know, white or black, talent is talent.
The kids are all in bed so I'm kicking back with the speakeasys and a bowl of Dark Star that I had hidden away.
