Bill Withers passed away from heart failure, not covid related. Raised a glass and lit a pipefull of Spark Plug while listening to "Ain't No Sunshine" in memorial.
@Balisong There are a lot of people passing away for different health reason and are being labeled "cover related" when reality is they would have passed anyway. Ellis Marsalis, a great New Orleans musician, just passed also and its being listed as cover related because he entered the hospital and was administered the test. They haven't released the results but are saying covid. The man was in his mid 80s and suffered from all sorts of ailments that kill people of his age.
I think they are using "famous" people deaths by cover-19 as a scare tactic to keep people practicing social distancing.
@PappyJoe My thoughts are similar. No offense intended, but people over 80....hell, 70 (and younger) have died everyday of all kinds of things without the Coronavirus having anything to do with it.
@Zouave I've heard of them but I don't think I've seen them in action. I know they have played at the French Quarter Fest and a couple of outdoor concerts in the park type things. I just looked them up and youtube. They are entertaining.
@Zouave The photo of the band "Tuba Skinny" immediately brings to mind the hillbilly family, The Bumpuses from the 1988 film "My Summer Story"; which was a sequel to Jean Shepherd's perennial Christmas movie "A Christmas Story". By now everyone knows the tale of Ralphie Parker and his quest for the ultimate Christmas gift, the Red Ryder B.B. Gun.
Well "A Christmas Story" stared Darren McGavin and Melinda Dillon as the parents and Peter Billingsley as Ralphie. And in that film the hillbilly next door neighbors were mentioned in passing because their dogs constantly tormented the Old Man every time he came home from work. And you'll remember the pack ate the family turkey.
The 1988 sequel had a major cast change with Chales Grodin as the Old Man, Mary Steenburger the mother, and Kieran Culkin as Ralphie. And gathering from the title, Christmas has long past and this film takes place the following summer. A major plot point in the film was the ongoing feud between Old Man Parker and his rambunctious hillbilly neighbors. And judging by the photo, Tuba Skinny could have been cast as members of the Bumpus Clan.
@ghostsofpompeii I'll have to check it out. 😂 Tuba skinny has been running online concerts lately because they are pretty much shut down from working. This virus is hitting everyone one way or another. And one of my favorite lines from a Christmas story...."sonsofbitches.......bumpuses!!!!!"
I hope this link posts. I am not the best at this stuff, so if it accidentally sends you to the wrong video, I apologise in advance. This should be a link to a new song from a singer named Pokey Lafarge. Great one to unwind with a quiet smoke. https://youtu.be/gM55KuthOdA
Nice choice @Michael308 he's one of my favorites. Speaking of favorites, his "My Favorite Things" album is tied with Miles "Kind of Blue" for best Jazz ever recorded in my rankings!
