First nice day in a while as the heat index dropped considerably once the rains came, so I was able to open the garage doors and sit in my makeshift man cave and enjoy a smoke. Love smoking in the garage during a rainstorm, provided we don't lose our electricity. Had a bowl of Lane Limited Wild Hare with just a pinch of Jameson English blend added. Even the smallest amount of Latakia sprinkled into a blend seems to dominate a flavor. Smoked it my Peterson Dracula pipe while listening to the concept album "Subterranea" from the British progressive rock band IQ. All and all a nice experience.
@motie2, also a Dylan fan. a few of my favorites are Masters of War both acoustic and electric version,Positively 4th Street, and Knockin on Heavens Door to name a few, he dam sure can put words together,
@thebadgerpiper Since you enjoy bagpipe music I thought you might find this to your liking. It's possibly one of the most original and strangest Doom Metal Bands I've come across ... Apocalypse Orchestra. They see to be a mixture of one part Doom Metal and another part Game Of Thrones all mixed into one. What other Doom Metal Band have you seen with both a bagpipe player and another member playing the ancient Hurdy Gurdy? Besides this video I've watched several others with the band performing with an orchestra. Once again, very unique.
@ghostsofpompeii Good choice! I've been looking for good bagpipe music mixed with stuff like metal and rock. My main music love is metal, metalcore, prog metal, and death metal. The bagpipe/celtic music is more for when I write or smoke my pipe, though I've grown to love it as well. This is right up my alley with both genres, so I'll have to find more. I could definitely venture into the Mines of Moria listening to this.
@PappyJoe Thanks Pappy, music and pipe smoking are among my favorite things. Mix in horror/sci-fi/fantasy/suspense movies similar themed TV shows and I could go on for hours. Wouldn't need to be a member of any other forum.
@Londy3 The song is at least two years old, but for GVF to have it as their first release is a triumph. The kid has lungs like Robert Plant. Even if they had not recorded anything since (and they have....), they would still be notable for this one song. As for accusations that they're just biting off of Led Zep, any band would kill to be able to do it this well.......
And now for something TOTALLY different... Saltwater by Chicane. Couldn't take a steady diet of this genre, but certainly falls into the category of a "change of pace"... You can YouTube it...
@thebadgerpiper Much thanks for posting the Wicked Tinkers, was unfamiliar with them, flippin awesome, down loaded 5 disks, My Scottish (pipe smoking) Grandfather (mentor) would have loved them.
I have "sort of" returned to my "roots" here lately. I have been binge listening to Pink Floyd and David Gilmore. On you tube there are several concerts with my favorite Pompeii Italy (been there), and several renditions of "Crazy Diamond" that just shows me how he is considered one of the best rock guitarists ever. One year my son followed them around for 3 concerts, one in Florida, one in Philly. and one up in North Jersey or New York. Enjoying the crap out of that music, and doing so with no pipe tobacco as it has been too damn hot and humid here to go outside and smoke.
"The Enid" is a British progressive/symphonic rock band that should not only appeal to fans of 70s' prog/rock but also classical music. If you love classical music but detest rock then give these guys a listen.
Joe Very nice music, I can certainly hear and feel the Classical overtones. Sounds a bit alike a music score for a movie, what do you think. As you know on my comments on your "Ghosts of Pompeii", when I hear music I see a picture in my immagination, or a movie. This piece I see maybe an Army on the March to the destiny of each individual. I hear both winning and temporary defeat? I "hear "smoke and gunfire, and I hear the sound aftre the ultimate battle of recovering the dead and wounded......then the audience at the end could be the returning victors?
I think I have a very active imagination. As an amature writer (when I have time) I think I have an overactive imagination. It is funny when I hear a song that I have not heard in ages, I immediately imagine the same thoughts and story that I heard the first time maybe years ago.
Some of Aaron Copelands music (who I was talking about today with a friend at my chemo session), brings such vivid thoughts and stories in my mind.
And, in trms of Classical and New Age, or Rock, do you remember the old Deep Purple album YEARS ago with I think the London Philharmonic Orchestra? I played that album so many times I thimk I ran the grooves out on the record.
Anyway thanks for the hesds up on that music, I am going to try and copy it to my computer (where I have my Ghosts of Pompeii Albums on my I Tunes files.
Again I am sorry for your recent loss, and I hope everyone is on the path to calming your sorrow and healing, as hard as I know that is.

@ghostsofpompeii
Hey, we're doing the same "a little Latakia" thing!
Gilmour's "On an Island." Yes, Sir!
Also, how goes the struggle?
Thanks for the tune...I am a fan of the bagpipes, interesting rendition.

It's 3-years old and still going strong.
I would like to acknowledge @motie2 and @ghostsofpompeii for their continued contribution to the discussion of music and pipe smoking.
